14. 'Under oath' could be considered short-hand for 'subject to the False Statements
Statements Statute"

What might be appropriate for testimony and affidavits from Hastert and company could come from a House Ethics Committee memo on their investigation of Tom DeLay, at http://www.house.gov/ethics/DeLay_memo.htm :

'<5> While responses to our requests for information are not provided under oath, those responses are subject to the false statements criminal statute, 18 U.S.C. 1001, as amended in 1996. That statute, among other things, prohibits knowingly and willfully making any materially false statement or concealing a material fact in any investigation or review, conducted pursuant to the authority of any committee . . . of the Congress, consistent with applicable rules of the House or Senate.'

16. Let's not go overboard on this whole issue
We're wasting too much time and energy on this. The election is close in many races and we have to get the focus back on close races rather than jumping up and down and shaking our fists about something that's gotten plenty of exposure already. What about Macacca Allen and pRick Santorum, in the Senate and the House races that need attention. This tawdry episode is eating up media, albeit negative, time and the focus is coming off races where the repube candidate could use more hammering. And let's not forget rigged elections courtesy of e-voting.

17. this episode is affecting races from MN to FL and PA to CA
It symbolizes perfectly the hypocrisy and corruption of the GOP for anyone to see. It validates everything we have known about them for years.

6. This "under oath" talking point would be a great thing to say on TV.
I hope she does- it needs to be on more than just a web-site that only Democrats see- it's a common sense talking point that swing-voters need to hear.

(Apologies in advance to all who see this post as "DEM bashing")

7. The Republics booed Pelosi on her efforts to refer this matter
to the Ethics Committee because she demanded an investigation of the cover-up.

15. Pelosi could demand OPEN HEARINGS on the coverup anytime after the
Monday deadline set last Friday. The Ethics Subcommittee authorized by last Friday's unanimous resolution is supposed to report "within 10 days"--which would be Monday October 9th.

IMO, Hastert, Boehner, Shimkus, Reynolds, Blunt, and other leaders need to be put on the record with initial statements and responses to questions right away. IMO, they must not be given chances to learn all the detailed allegations about Foley from Pages, staff members, Rodney Alexander (R-LA), and all the other complainants.

It might be considered inappropriate to have House Pages providing salacious details of Foley's behavior live on CSPAN. But only politics would prevent Hastert et al from going on record before their legal "Dream Team" concocts a detailed cover story.
