Senator Lieberman is Abusing Detainees
Check this out. Another innocent guy was just released from Guantanamo after he was abused there. Here is a link:
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/10/04/europe/EU_GEN_Germany_Guantanamo_Prisoner.php

-------------------------------
Now, recall the Lieberman-Lamont debate:

LIEBERMAN: ... That was the right decision, and now the president will have to do what he should have done earlier, come to Congress and negotiate a legal way to treat the detainees at Guantanamo .

And please understand that there's nothing in that court decision that orders us to release those detainees. They are dangerous. And the last thing we want to do is release them.
-------------------------------

And so Lieberman has made this all legal by voting in favor of the Military Commissions Act of 2006 which again provides retroactive pardons for all those involved. Check out the rollcall:

1. I just realized that the op might not be clear enough
Let me give more details. In early July of 2006, Lieberman and Lamont debated. One point of discussion had to do with the Supreme Court decision that the Administration was wrong to violate habeas corpus for detainees at Gitmo. Here was Lieberman's response:
----------------------------
LIEBERMAN: ...

----------------------------
Then, later on August 24th, 2006, a German-born Turk was released from Gitmo because his lawyers finally got him out after 5 years. He was completely innocent and was only coincidentally captured traveling at an airport. So, basically, Lieberman's generalization was wrong. Not all the people at Gitmo were dangerous at the time. Furthermore, other innocent people have been released from Gitmo during previous months. Therefore, there is no reason to believe that there are not more such innocent people. Removing habeas corpus means that such innocent people will never be released.

Finally, on September 28th, 2006, this is exactly what happened. Congress voted to remove habeas corpus for detainees. And Lieberman who claimed before that Bush should have "come to Congress and negotiate a legal way to treat the detainees at Guantanamo" got his wish. That is because now it is legal for these people to be held without charges or speedy trials.

Among quite a few other atrocities that the law enables is some forms of torture. The German citizen who had been released (as well as all innocents released) have told us about the torture. So, have some leaks. And it is documented quite well. So, when Lieberman helped to pass the law in the Senate, he became complicit in this abuse against rights and this physical abuse of the detainees.
