I'm an impeachment hawk. I also *still* like Nancy Pelosi.
Let me explain these two seemingly (to some) opposite opinions.

Impeachment: We actually have no choice. The destruction that has been wrought on the foundations of our government are horrendous. The damage that has been done to our reputation and international standing is frightening and counter to our long term best interests. It is pretty clear to virtually anyone capable of more brain function than cortex reflex that most of our top government officials have, singularly and as part of a conspiracy, committed serious crimes. Not blow jobs. Serious, real, death-penalty-eligible crimes. There's no need to call for impeachment. Just calling for hearings will suffice. Right now, it is my firm conviction that most of America is simply not on board with the notion of impeachment. They need to be convinced. I am just as certain that, once we start hearings and put these people under oath, the public will be begging for impeachment. No one likes to be punk'd. And we've been punke'd.

Pelosi: I've seen our Leader pilloried here for two specific statements. One on Press The Meat a few months back when she said 'impeachment is off the table' and one just this weekend when she said pretty much the same thing. Why would I, an impeachment hawk, not be concerned about this? Well, for anyone who can't see the obvious, its very simple.

Its politics. And, as a politician who wants to see her party win both houses of Congress this go-round, Ms. Pelosi is speaking to the larger audience out there. Not us hard core, Democtratic Death Match team members. She's speaking to the 'uncertains' and the 'uniformed' and the 'undecideds' and the 'morons' and the 'sheeple'.

Further, in her role as Leader (soon to be Speaker) it is her job to control the flow of the House. The hearings are not directly hers to call (of *course* she can influence them to happen or not, but the actual call is from the committee heads - like the ought-to-be-sainted John Conyers). I've not heard anythng about no hearings. I've heard 'drain the swamp'. But I've not heard 'don't investigate'. Pretty much only as an avoidance tactic toward being trapped into addressing directly the impeachment thing. (How do you think "CRAZY PERSON DEMOCRAT LEADER PELOSI SAYS BUSH SHOULD BE IMPEACHED" will play on talk radio and the corporate news?) (Clue: Foley? Foley who?)

Remember ..... impeachment is very much an ahead of the curve position.

And to get to impeachment, there needs to be a process. And that starts with hearings. We all know damned good and well that if the tables were turned and the other side were talking during a campaign, in advance of even the first real hearing, about impeaching our president, we'd be up in arms and accusing them, rightly so, of over reaching and vindictiveness.

Impeachment is fresh on the minds of many. They have at least a vague idea of how it works.

So, for now, I'll keep both my positions. I want Bush and everyone else impeached. And I stand by Leader Pelosi.

(By the way, I'm such an impeachment hawk that I want Fat Nino and Little Slappy up on charges too for their felonious assault on our Democracy in 2000. They simply had NO STANDING to do what they did in the way they did it.)

1. Yup. Investigations come first. REAL investigations.
Visualize IMPEACHMENT.

Then DO something to make it happen.

2. Yeah, I think Pelosi is good news.
She's said a few dumb things but I'll never forget the ways she has stood up to Bush on so many fronts.

3. "Ahead of the curve" is such an accurate metaphor. We are NOT
the majority in either house. WTF is up with hypothetics? And, thank you Ms. Pelosi for your acumen, although if we win either or both houses, you will be under extreme scrutiny.

With which you seem to be OK. :-) MKJ

4. Impeachment will never happen
Investigations certainly will and the truth (which we all know) will finally come out and expose, for certainty, Bush and all those responsible for the catastrophe in Iraq.

How Bush and those boot-lickers sleep at night is beyond me.

8. Don't you tell me it will never happen!

We'll never be a democracy again if we don't hold these people accountable. If you keep letting the Bushes get away with it, they'll be back again in the not too distant future. Remember Iran Contra? The same group is back because they weren't stopped back then. See what I'm saying?

5. I'm with you all the way.
I stand by Pelosi and the Democrat's position on impeachment. But I also realize that impeachment is the inevitable end to this huge mess.

Kicked and recommended.

6. I'm certain Pelosi is for impeachment despite her official statements
It would be a lot like a poker player telling the dealer what cards he has.

Of course, Pelosi is going to say that she is not necessarily for impeachment. If she said she was, could you imagine the claptrap coming from the MSM and the Chimpministration and its lackeys? It would be a disaster.

First, we get the majority...then... you'll be amazed what may happen next.

10. It is my understanding....

....and I could be wrong...but, Nancy Pelosi can only speak for this CURRENT CONGRESS. She can't and doesn't speak for the next congress, the one we elect in November.

It may be "clintonian" but for her to say "it's off the table", "we don't have time"....that could apply to this congress who's term will end in a few months.

14. I think she wanted to keep impeachment out of the election
Because the media would have hounded them to death if they thought that impeachment was in play and could create negativity knowing how the last impeachment disgusted the voters.

Pelosi really hasn't had anything to do with the impeachment movement - that's been John Conyers. Ironically Conyers has neither agreed or disagreed with Pelosi!

15. Conyers has been taking names and gathering
evidence for a long time. He is an impeachment specialist at this point. I think that when the Dems take over the house he will begin impeachment proceedings immediately. Never say never.
