Kerry, Dems Take Aim at GOP in Iowa
Kerry, Dems Take Aim at GOP in Iowa
October 9th, 2006 @ 12:33 am

There’s only 29 days to go before the November mid-term elections and John Kerry is on the road pulling out all the stops to campaign for candidates across the country. In Iowa on Sunday, “nearly 250 Iowa Democrats paid $5, each, on Sunday afternoon to listen to three hours of speechmaking and fundraising for their state and national candidates. The event included appearances by Senators John Kerry and Tom Harkin.

Attendees came from as far as Woodbury, Adair, and Dubuque counties for the event in the ballroom at the Wild Rose Casino. The event was organized by the Democratic Central Committees of Palo Alto, Emmet, Kossuth, Pocahontas and Humboldt counties.

President George W. Bush took assaults from nearly every speaker on topics ranging from the War on Terrorism and healthcare, to education policies.

John Kerry, the keynote speaker at the event opened by saying that it was good to be “back in a state where grassroots politics means something.”

Kerry added that he was in Iowa for 116 days before the 2004 caucuses. ” The Republicans may have more money. And they may have fear on their side. But looking out at you right now, I can tell you: You are Karl Rove’s worst nightmare.”

After remarks on behalf of Iowa candidates including Dr. Shelden Spencer, Secretary of Agriculture candidate Denise OíBrien, Secretary of State candidate Mike Mauro, and Culver, Kerry commented that “This is a big election. Here in Iowa and nationally.”

1. The curse of the 2004 loss still clings to Kerry.
But he has effectively and methodically worked for the demise of his victorious opponent's cadre of goons the past two years with election reform, foreign policy wisdom, and appearances such as this. He may not run again, but he is definitely a cherished elder statesman for the party.

2. JK did NOT lose. Diebold won the '04 election for Shrub.
So NOTHING negative "clings" to JK, except that which Repugs keep trying to warm-over, and distort.

The Iowans were the first to support JK in last campain. I trust their good judgment & their memory of their trust in him then renewed.

3. Man, was that defensive.
He's not President. He lost the war. Figure out the reality where he is actually in The White House since 2004 and then say he won. Like I said, could you just can the Kerry stuff for less than 30 days?

4. Thanks & right-on.
I am not anti-Kerry, just anti-Bush.
What I tried to say was that I admire Kerry for remaining active and not disappearing like Gore did. And I probably should add that I'm not anti-Gore.

7. I fail to view the outcome of 04 as a curse against Kerry. I see that
as being a new strength.

8. And that "new strength" may be bearing fruit now
as the pubs are in disarray. Maybe Kerry had more foresight in 2004 than anyone gave him credit for.

5. It's about 2006, it's about getting some accountability
into the 110th Congress and some truth out of this Government about what is really going on.

I applaud everyone who is working so hard to raise money for this year's crop of Democratic candidates. 2008 will take of itself soon enough. We have to concentrate on 2006. (Dear Lord, 2006 could see the political demise of both Rick Santorum and George Allen. If that isn't a reason to look forward to a victory party in Nov, I don't know what is.)
