"They were warned - and did NOTHING."
Eric Massa's current Diary posted at Daily Kos shows how to neatly connect Foley to the bigger picture of Rape-Publican corruption and negligence:

"NY-29:'They Were Warned and Did Nothing': Foley, 9/11, Iraq, etc.":
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/10/8/15156/5676

For those who may not already know it, Eric Massa is the Democrat running to defeat a smarmy Rape-Publican incumbent in NY's 29th CD.

Thanks to DUer Tom Rinaldo for calling attention to this, here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2871384&mesg_id=2871384

1. bush's base is so pissed their boys got caught
People who vote for republicans don't care if republican congressmen are fucking 16 year old pages; they are just royally pissed that members of the "party of responsibility" are getting caught with their pants down. The base is as fucking scummy as elected republicans.

4. They truly can plead ignorance.
They are so freaking gullible and so full of pride, just knowing that whomever they vote for is christian, fair, honest and chock full of integrity. bush supporters are the number one cause of so much pain and harm in this country. And they are the constitution's number one domestic enemy; no doubt in my military mind.

5. It's not stupidity...
...and when we hurl that third-grade epithet, we not only look petty and childish, we fool ourselves to the detriment of our own strategy.

Two important books to read:

"Conservatives Without Conscience," by John Dean

"Thinking Points," by George Lakoff (which is being serialized online at http://www.rockridgeinstitute.org/thinkingpoints)

10. I believe the foot soldiers
who provide the votes can be labeled ignorant. They are easily manipulated by the gop propaganda machine. The base chooses to accept what they are told by people they believe are christian and honest and have their best interests at heart. They are team players too proud to admit their team just might be wrong. Pride and ignorance have been a winning combination by the manipulators of the gop.

One (of many) examples I always chuckle about. When the swift boat attack book came out about Kerry, novak said on crossfire that it was well researched and those two words were on the back cover of the book. One of my fellow old farts (he of the ignorant and malleable crowd) who hangs out at my favorite watering hole was blathering about the book before the 04 election. He said it was (imagine) "well researched." I asked him if he read it. He said NO! I have no problem referring to them as ignorant. At the very least they are intellectually lazy.

11. I think the word you used above is better: gullible.
Gullibility and stupidity are not the same thing. I know plenty of BRILLIANT people who can be proverbial P.T. Barnum suckers.

We shouldn't give ourselves over to the prejudice - strategically foolish prejudice, no less - that "all those people are idiots."

8. It's the new meaning for a "Do Nothing Congress".
Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 11:25 AM by Tom Rinaldo
But actually we left out the last active step in this dance, the one where Republicans actually DO something: They were warned, they did nothing, and then they covered up.

Frankly, the meme "they were warned, and they did NOTHING" seems to apply pretty much ACROSS THE FRICKIN' BOARD with these people. I guess when one has one's head that far up one's ass as this bunch has, it's awfully hard to see or hear what's going on around you.

KICK, dammit.

23. Yellow cake evidence doctored, Chalabi couldn't be trusted...
Al Quada recruitment would soar if we attacked Iraq, the need for serious post invasion planning for the period after removing Hussein, if we broke Iraq we would own it, the list goes on and on...
