A simple message to the religious right...

In 1609 a scientist, which history calls the Father of Astronomy and the Father of Physics proved that the universe does not rotate around the Earth.

I claim no profound grasp of philosophy or science. Even those with limited mentality can stand on the shoulders of an intellectual giant and then take the next mental step: The Earth does not rotate around the United States, nor should our Senate, House or country, for that matter, rotate around the president.

Do current events in the world make anyone feel safer? Again, let us look to the past for answers...

Calling North Korea a member of the "Axis of Evil" and then standing by while they build and test nuclear weapons, proves that current leadership in Washington DC not only lacks strong-arm control in world affairs but also any desire to curb the spread of nuclear weapons. Certainly, use of diplomacy might have offset these very troubling recent developments. Diplomacy, however, was never even considered an option by the White House, Senate or House of Representitives. Diplomacy is rarely a response by those of limited intellect but it is the hallmark of great leaders.

Not long after the World Trade Center disaster, the 9/11 Commission adamentally insisted that we should inspect EVERY bit of cargo that enters our ports but instead of actions, words were offered to make America feel safer.

It's not just port security; Republicans have done very little to bring about ANY security in America until very recently. In fact, Bush originally opposed forming the 9/11 Commission. By arguing that an intepedant investigation would duplicate a probe conducted by Congress, the president attempted to close the whole sordid chapter and turn the page, if you can pardon a pun. Then, by July 2002, the Administration issued a statement of policy to oppose ANY amendment to create a new commission to conduct similar reviews.

The reason for partisian oposition is obvious: As late as December 2005, the 9/11 Commission gave Cargo Inspection a D, which is in keeping with other grades Republicans are recieving on ethics. In the last report on "checked bag and cargo screening," the 9/11 Commission states, "Improvements here have not been made a priority by the Congress or the administration." <http://www.9-11pdp.org/press/2005-12-05_report.pdf>
