Jack Cafferty's 7:00 question .....

Link: http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/situation.room/

Q: Would it help the Republicans' chances in the midterm elections if Dennis Hastert resigned as speaker of the House?

Frankly I don't think anything can help them at this point. They don't have any toes left from shooting themselves in the foot so many times. The voters are ready for a change.

1. It might help if Bush and Cheney resigned....
And then Hastert could be President.

2. I think it's moot.
Other GOP leaders are up to their necks in this mess as well.

3. Despite the bad PR of hanging on . . .
It would be worse (for them) if he quit. That confirms the magnitude of the crime, which they're able to muddy-up at present while the whole incident is in maxi-swirl mode.

Not to mention that there needs to be a Speaker for the upcoming lame duck session, in which they may have their last chance to wreck the country for the next 2 years.

4. A: irrelevant
Hastert should resign because that is the right thing to do.
