Colorado District 5 a toss-up!!

State's 5th District a tossup
Republican, Democrat neck and neck. Events in Washington could change ownership of the seat, held by the GOP since it was created in 1972.

Colorado Springs - In what may be the starkest depiction yet of the challenges Republicans face in maintaining control of Congress, a new poll shows the party is fighting to hold on to a traditionally Republican seat in Colorado Springs.

No Democrat has won in the 5th Congressional District since it was created in 1972, but Democrat Jay Fawcett is tied with Republican Doug Lamborn, according to a poll conducted for The Denver Post by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research.

Fawcett and Lamborn each have 37 percent of the votes, while 26 percent of voters in the six-county district remain undecided. The poll was conducted Oct. 3 through Saturday and included 400 likely voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.

"It appears that Lamborn is now the first Republican who has ever had to fight hard to take that seat," said Bob Loevy, political-science professor at Colorado College. "A seat that should not have been competitive for the Democratic Party, as a result of a number of

unusual events coming together - if the poll is correct - now appears to be competitive."

2. More people need to see this
I've posted three threads on this race and hardly anybody notices. I have no idea why. Not only would a victory here, which is enthrely within the realm of possibility, give us another seat, but it would be a huge boo-yeah against Dobson and the whole Republican party. I don't know why nobody cares.

4. they should care
every win for Democrats in any area, especially after the past 6 yrs of a corrupt voting system, is important for all of us. And since Colorado, homeland to FMA queen Musgrave, is still considered by the repugs as a majority of god-fearing GOP members - it would send a clear message to them that they've got their facts wrong and that we're not all seeing Republican Red.

I'm not in district 5, but am keeping my fingers crossed for Fawcett!!

5. Do you think you could spare a donation?
Not to pry or anything, but right now the most important thing is keeping Fawcett's ads on tv, so if you could give even a few bucks, that would really help. If not, then be assured your moral support is much appreciated :)

11. I don't mind the question
rockymountaindem. Will find his contact page and make a donation.

And if Fawcett wins it will really help shake-up the Colorado Springs area which has a strong fundie base.

8. Fifth recommendation! Let's get this race in high gear!
I don't know why this race hasn't received national Dem attention!

This is just as big as CT, and maybe much bigger, if Fawcett can get the support of the party.

This would be so great, if Dist 5 was a win for the Dems.

Go, Jay!
