A part of me wants the republicans to win..
A TINY TINY TINY part but still a part...
because... well.. then they can blame us for all the shit that they have done and people will fall for it.. and vote in a republican president again...
because come on admit it... sadly most americans don't pay much attention to politics than we do.. and usually its the republicans that go out and vote...
i don't know..
it might just be me...
i know how screwed we would be if there were elected in again .. because then they would think they are going in the right direction but i don't what the Dem's to get all the blame either..
does this make any sense or should i go lay back down and get some more sleep (haven't slept good in awhile)

23. Oh, no you don't... take it from one who has been there!
Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 04:03 PM by No Exit
At least, I've more or less been there. I used to be a supporter of the vile republican party--for the first 20 or so years of my adult life!

Somehow--through my own stupidity, with help from listening to the bought-and-paid-for republican shills who pass for "newspeople" and "journalists"--I got the idea (around 1999), "Gee, wouldn't it be great if we controlled both the presidency and the congress?" "We" being "my" party of choice: the republicans. (Yeah, I know, I know!)

I had been so stupid that I actually thought that it was "something wrong" when one of my admired republican presidents was "held back" by having to deal with a democratic congress.

:puke:

Then it happened. "Dubya" got el--well, that is to say, er, "Dubya" somehow contrived to occupy the white house. I was jubilant.

Close to 2 years later, I was ashen with horror as I realized that we were going to invade Iraq--for NO legitimate reason. Although I am no insider or expert, I KNEW in my gut, from the get-go, that Iraq was NO threat to us, regardless of the nonstop cant about "weapons of mass destruction, blah blah blah." GOD, HOW TIRED I GREW OF THAT PHRASE!!! I opposed the Iraq invasion from the very second I first heard about it.

Now, I realized that my children were nearing draft-age, and might be sucked into this meaningless carnage. So, yes, the first reasons for my turning on the repukes were somewhat selfish ones.

But then I started to REALLY listen to the other side--the democrats, as well as some non-democrats who were completely and totally against Bush. It was then that I began to see all the OTHER really, really, horrid stuff republicans were perpetrating. Not just Bush--ALL the republicans. The entire party.

So, no, not even the tiniest, itty-bittiest, most miniscule particle of me wants anything but a COMPLETE AND TOTAL POLITICAL MASSACRE of the entire republican party, preferably in THIS coming election, in other words, A.S.A.P!!!

13. I feel that way sometimes, too, esp about the president...I
almost hate to see someone I admire get slammed and blamed as I have seen so often in the past. As another poster said, It definitely is a two-headed dragon. Thankfully, it's not really up to you or me to decide alone.

3. I'd almost say . .
. . wash your mouth out with soap! But, one of my fears is that if/when the dems get in control, there will be more "terrorist" attacks in this country. Then it'll be the dems fault and things will swing back in '08 to the realy terrorists.

19. I was thinking that the other day.
Repukian interests will stage an attack if the Democrats take over -- I'd bet a large amount of money on it. I'd guess they'd target California or some other liberal place. Then it will be: "Oh, see, we TOLD you they couldn't keep you safe."

You can't "win by losing", and truly the world cannot endure any more years of this gang of greedy amoral thugs. They must go, NOW.

7. You make a good point.
If the Dems win, they will get stuck with all of the problems which are monumentally difficult to solve. And then they will get the blame. If the Repubs win, you can bank on 2 more years of incompetence which might help the Dems chances in 2008.

It really is a two-sided dragon, isn't it?

14. In a tiny, tiny way I can relate....
It's an unfathomable ditch that Dems would have to dig the country out of, in some ways it would be sweet justice for the Repubs to win back the disaster they created. But we all know that they could never fix it and who can stand the thought of even worse???

It is always better to have power than not to have it.

Control of the Legislature will not affect the politic of 2008 in the manner you fear: people blame the Executive, the personifying, individual focus of the government, not the collective body of the Congress, for disasters and calamity, just as they praise the Executive for good times and triumphs.

But I think if we get a blowout, it will destroy their leadership, including Rover, and that might mean they will reform their party. Not likely, but possible. It would be nice to have two decent parties again.

20. Dems always clean up Rep messes
FDR, LBJ (civil rights), Clinton. Even Carter inherited a crappy economy and created huge job growth, just not enough to meet the demand of boomers. Anyway, cleaning up after them is nothing new.

Hehe, maybe that's why Democrats attract women and Republicans attract men. :)

24. Yep -- We're the parent who makes the kids eat veggies, clean up,
do their homework, and pay the consequences for their actions. You know, we behave like responsibile adults. Republicans, on the other hand, are the parents that let their kids eat cookies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, stay up late, buy them any silly shit they cry for at Toys R Us, and then run off without dealing with the the aftermath.

27. The world cannot afford 2 more years of un-opposed war-mongering by Bush
I realize that even if the Democrats make gains, they may not be sufficient to give them massive power; and that Bush and Cheney will still be there. But even a limited opposition might make the difference between life and death for lots of people in the world. At the extreme, it could conceivably make the difference between having versus not having a third world war.

29. I agree
Winning now is going to make winning in '08 a lot harder. The problem is that in all likelihood a Democratic Congress will get absolutely nothing done in the next 2 years and Republicans will be able to point at that as a reason to vote Repug.

31. I disagree.
If a Senator is the Democratic presidential nominee and Democrats control the Senate, they can schedule votes to make him or her look good.

If a Senator is the Democratic presidential nominee and Republicans control the Senate, they can schedule votes to make him or her look bad.

30. If they control the House or the Senate, then they can arrange...
...votes in Congress to make Democrats look bad.

Take the example of Rep. Sherrod Brown of Ohio (who is running for the US Senate.)

He voted for the Torture Bill.

Perhaps he feared Republican attack ads if he voted against it. But now Democrats like myself don't want to donate to him.
