If Lennon and Zappa were alive today, they'd tag-team Bush into DUST. |
|
First, they WERE friends: http://www.amazon.com/Some-Time-York-City-Live/dp/B000002UW9/sr=8-2/qid=1160514497/ref=sr_1_2/104-5117408-6241539?ie=UTF8&s=musicSecond, they were both politically active and AWARE. I had one more hero growing up, Neil Young...and you already know what HE'S had to say on the subject of Bush: http://www.amazon.com/Living-War-Neil-Young/dp/B000FI9OSG/sr=1-1/qid=1160514593/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-5117408-6241539?ie=UTF8&s=musicToday's one of those days where I really miss Lennon and Zappa. Bush is getting his worthless frat boy ass handed to him. I wish they were here to see it. Wherever they are, I'd like to think they DO see it, and they're buying each other a cool and frosty beer. :patriot:

They were the best at what they did. They could both cut right through the bull and speak the plain truth. And they could play pretty good too.

Not because they couldn't have done it, but because they both would have tragically "committed suicide".

3. Maybe, or maybe they would find themselves visited by goons in the night |
|
Nixon and Reagan were bad enough, but neither one had the kind of power these fascists have.

6. Well, there's a brand new movie about the "Lennon Goons"... |
|
...but I don;t know. I don't see either of them as cowards. I think they would have spoken their minds no matter who was after them. Lennon certainly knew he was "on the list," and it didn't shut HIM up...of course, Nixon wasn't Bush, and Spiro Agnew wasn't Dick Cheney, so who knows...

8. Not saying they were cowards |
|
Lennon was a damn brave man. Don't know much about Zappa but wouldn't say it about him either. It is just that, now, you have the full force of the Government available for oppression without constitutional restrictions.

Despite hating touring towards the end of his life, Zappa would have most likely packed his crap up into a truck, and gone on tour again. After all "Dickies Such An Asshole", now has newly revived meaning. Different Dickie, sam corrupt bullshit.
Let's be Frank.

Zappa was my hero since 1971.
He looked seriously into running for President in the late 80's. The libertarian party asked him to be their presidential candidate and he refused because after he read their platform he felt he couldn't support it.
One quote about his running; "not only would I be elected, but I'd be good at the job."
I read a theory on a Zappa fan board that the TV camera's used to film a never aired 60 minutes Ed Bradley piece on Zappa, during the awesome 88 tour, contained "cancer rays" which were aimed at Frank. This was pulled off by James Baker, because Zappa debated the PM RC all over and his wife was one of the people Zappa took on.
Al Gore said at the hearings that he was a "fan of your music" to Zappa.
When Frank got sick, the Gore's set him a personal get well note. Gail Zappa has in the past donated about $200,000 to the Dem's in the early 90's. I don't know if she still does.
Dweezil is on tour with "Zappa Plays Zappa" to rave reviews all over Europe and the States.
I'll be seeing this show in Wallingford Connecticut in a few weeks.
Among the people that gave eulogies to Frank on the airwaves or in writing were Daniel Schorr and Linda Ellerbee. Schorr was going to be the anchor of a late night Zappa news show on Fox (Night School), but they went with Arsenio instead.
If Zappa had lived he would either be quoted daily on MSM about his loathing of all things Bush, or would be suicided by the BFEE, if he wasn't already back in 1993.

9. Times like this make me miss JL |

all the more. Can you imagine what he'd be saying about BushCo, the songs he'd be writing, etc.? We really need someone like that nowadays.

It's sad to think of all of the voices silenced who would be screaming now.
