Thank you for contacting me about former Representative Foley and his deplorable behavior.


I am sicken by the revelations and by the breach of trust that everyone placed in him.He has brought shame on the U.S House of Represent ives, and his conduct has threaten to destroy another outstanding institution, the Congressional Page Program, which has meant so much to the thousands of young men and women who have participated in it over the years. Had he not resigned, I would have voted to expel him.

Also troubling to me is that so many of us have been trying so hard to help parents keep their children safe from Internet predators, when in fact all the time there was one right in our midst.

As for how the House Leadership or others handled reports of Mr. Foley's "over friendly conduct" with a page, I assure you that the truth will be uncovered.

As a member of the House Committee on Ethics, I am returning to Washington today to meet with the other nine members of the Committee to begin our investigation.

Who knew of Mr. Foley's conduct, and what-actions were or weren't taken will be the subject of our investigation.


Although Committee rules require confidentiality on part of members who will investigate and adjudicate pending matters , you may rest assured that I will do everything in my power to ensure that evidence is brought to light and that justice is done.
