Air America filing for Bankruptcy?
Edited on Fri Oct-13-06 12:36 PM by lonehalf
Three weeks ago they denied it.

Said it was just a rumor.

Is it real this time?

Can we get the "Fairness Doctrine" back?

11. If "Air America Radio" folds, the local stations which...
...play progressive talk shows could still play Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller and hire other hosts.

2. Bankruptcy Protection..
"Air America also said that Democracy Allies LLC will provide a credit facility `to ensure the company's continued operation without interruption.'"

Nothing to do but wait and see..

In the meantime, the righties will get their jollies off on the news --- even if Air America will be able to pull it together. They'll have a feeding frenzy over this news.

Stephanie Miller and Big Ed Schultz aren't on AAR, and have nothing to worry about .. As for Air America, let's just hope they get their act together once and for all --- and SOON!

4. It Could Still Hurt Big Ed & Steph..
Because two thirds of their stations are Air America affiliates. So yeah it could still hurt their bottom line.

12. Those stations don't have to change formats if AAR folds.
They might, but they don't have to.

5. I think They waited a month..
because they knew how important this coming election was to all of us. Air America has had a huge impact on this election no doubt about that.

10. Here's the reason...
there was an earlier version of the AP story that has since vanished (can't find a link) that had one different sentence than the one linked above -

"Court documents showed that MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting Inc., a creditor with whom the network had tussled in its early days, had Air America's bank accounts frozen."

6. They don't know how to run radio
I get the impression the management does not know how to run a network. They need to go into good democratic communities and mae agreements with local progressive groups to visit local advertizers... For instance here in Tallahassee the two largest Dem groups in town have pledged to work to get members out to patronize advertisers. In this heavily democratic area it would make sense. But do we have any progressive radio here..... NO!

All we have is a flood of competing Rush-Hannity-and god forbid Michael Savage Weiner stations. All conservative TALK misses 2/3rds of the population here... Clearly there is a market opportunity that is being missed.

9. The Drobnys (the original founders) want to do a lot of what you suggest.
But they don't run the network, unfortunately. Here in Milwaukee it's much the same as what you describe in Tallahassee. Here's what some activists are doing here, along with the Drobnys:

8. George Soros-Warren Buffet
I do not see why George Soros and Warren Buffet cannot put large amounts of money into the network. If he wanted, Warren Buffet could take over running the network. There are too many rich Democrats for this to be happening. Many of them could just take over the network and run it themselves. I know this could cause some problems in that Republicans would complain about how the network in run by George Soros. However, Democrats have to learn how to fight. Rupert Murdoch loses millions, if not billions, of dollars a year financing his newspapers and magazine that do not make a profit. For years he lost billions of dollars financing Fox News before it became profitable. Democrats should just point that out if/when Republicans would talk about how Air America is financed by George Soros or some other Democrat.

13. Yes, one billionaire could save AAR, but apparently...
Edited on Fri Oct-13-06 09:24 PM by Eric J in MN
...there aren't any billionaires who want to.

I wish there were.
