Teen questioned for online Bush threats

By DON THOMPSON, Associated Press Writer Sat Oct 14, 6:44 AM ET

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Upset by the war in Iraq, Julia Wilson vented her frustrations with President Bush last spring on her Web page on MySpace.com. She posted a picture of the president, scrawled "Kill Bush" across the top and drew a dagger stabbing his outstretched hand. She later replaced her page on the social-networking site after learning in her eighth-grade history class that such threats are a federal offense.

It was too late.

Federal authorities had found the page and placed Wilson on their checklist. They finally reached her this week in her molecular biology class.

The 14-year-old freshman was taken out of class Wednesday and questioned for about 15 minutes by two
Secret Service agents. The incident has upset her parents, who said the agents should have included them when they questioned their daughter.

1. So I don't want to kill Bush.
I am opposed to capital punishment, even for mass murdering pyschopaths like Bush. But I want him put on trial outside this country for crimes against humanity and punished according to international treaties and laws. Is that a federal offense to?

Bush to the Hague!

Lock me up.

I remember when Clinton was in office, two 14 year olds sent him death threats in the mail. They got put on a shitlist.

Back in the 60's the town idiot where I used to live threatened to kill LBJ. Every time a Pres. (up until Daddy Bush) came to Nashville (which is less than 20 miles away) they put this guy in the county jail.

You do not threaten a Pres. with physical harm or death. PERIOD. Unless you wish to go through a bunch of crap.

3. Fine -- and she took the image down.
The Feds must be plenty busy if they're spending their time perusing 14-year-old girls' MySpace pages and tracking them down...

5. Any and all threats against a Pres.....
are taken seriously.

I hate the guy as much as any body, but would never be idiotic enough to publicly threaten his life!

10. Obviously.
But it's ridiculous when they start dragging kids out of classrooms!!

So 14-year-olds can be "idiots." As soon as she realized it was a serious offense, she took it down. If somebody HAD to question her afterwards, they could have spoken with her while her parents were there, rather than going to her school, yelling at her, etc...

12. It's not about being "bright."
She didn't know that even a MySpace picture could be treated seriously, and when she DID know, she took it down -- BEFORE the Feds came after her.

13. Glad to know our tax dollars are at work. This child threatens
Chucklenuts LAST SPRING and they are just now getting around to checking it out? Guess they are using the Katrina timeline model for doing their job. Wonder if they are taking the time in checking out all threats about this "moran."

Kid stupid for such a silly stunt - Secret Service even "stupider" for questioning this girl without her parents present. These guys think the laws do not apply to them, wonder where they got that idea?

15. Violation of Her Rights
Before someone is questioned who is under age they must have their parents present. How come they weren't called. And this really getting ridiculous.

We have a right wing republican absolute nut.....Ann the man Coulter. She comes right out on TV, writes it in her column and SAYS KILL THE EDITORS OF THE NEW YORK TIMES. KILL THE JUDGES. Nothing happened.

We have a preacher. A supposed religious man calling for the killing of a head of state. Nothing happens..

Then we have a teen ager, upset at the carnage bush caused and says kill bush and she is threatened by the secret service.

16. Seems to be an ongoing issue...
Assistant Principal Paul Belluomini said the agents gave him the impression the girl's mother knew they were planning to question her daughter at school. There is no legal requirement that parents be notified.

"This has been an ongoing problem," said Ann Brick, an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union in San Francisco.

Former Govs. Pete Wilson and Gray Davis vetoed bills that would have required that parents give consent or be present when their children are questioned at school by law enforcement officers. A similar bill this year cleared the state Senate but died in the Assembly.

20. Ferocious freckle-faced freshman frustrated by Feds!
Authorities remain unsure why the freshman was found in an Eighth grade History Class, however, and are investigating further. Agents were reassigned from the Washington Anthrax Investigation to the case.

21. What's even sadder is that it took until the 8th grade and history to
understand her civil liberties and the non-liberties (such as threatening the president).. what is wrong with this country... 8th graders don't know the constitution before this age.
