I went to a viewing of "Iraq for Sale" today. We need people to show
this film far and wide. It is so disturbing. Halliburton and all their cronies with contracts in Iraq are paid according to a "cost plus" arrangement. That means that they receive a certain percentage over every cost they incur. They charge $100.00 for every load of laundry that they do. Apparently they told someone that it costs them $50 or $60 to do a load of laundry.

And if a truck gets a flat or has anything broken guess what they do. They BLOW IT UP AND BUY A NEW ONE BECAUSE THEY GET PAID FOR BUYING A NEW TRUCK!

The killing of US soldiers has become a very profitable business. These big executive WANTED THIS WAR. They have made a fortune on it.

Here is a clip of one man names Ben Carter who is a water sanitation specialist. He explains how he found all sorts of parasites and bacteria in the water and was not allowed to do anything about it and how the soldiers are drinking in it and showering in it now. This clip is heart breaking.

If this is the first post about this can we rate it up? They really want people to buy the video and show it to as many people as they can. I think it is OK to make copies if you can't afford to buy more than one.

1. Iraq for Sale
The movie is indeed disturbing. Impressive to me also was the take-home pay of the executives of these companies. It is a movie everyone who believes in this war should see, because it is painfully obvious that the morality of this endeavor is very murky.

CSPAN or Sundance to show this movie! I haven't seen it but Olbermann's short segment made me damned angry.

And thanks, Maraya!

3. First probe by new congress...
...should be investigation into this war-profiteering scandal.
Put some of these swine into federal prison, starting with
Cheney and his Halliburton cronies.

5. Rep. Henry Waxman has been on it, but he doesn't get much
play because he's in the minority. :banghead:

I'm so sick of hearing that! We HAVE to win in November.

8. There should be many many people seeing it together today
as John Kerry and many organizations tried to get people on their lists to see it in house parties tonight.

If this catches it could be as deep a scandal as Foley - no sex, but many people accepting this and not constraining Halleburton.

This is powerful because it is sickening no matter where you stand on the war.

9. K&R! In a CT town near me, Iraq4Sale was censored before it was seen
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 11:32 PM by wordpix2
A couple of weeks ago, I found out about Iraq for Sale through an email message and then I sent around an email message myself, asking Dem town committees in my area if they would be interested in sponsoring a screening. A woman in Middlebury who received my message through a mutual friend said she spoke with the library director and was immediately told such a film couldn't be shown in the public library because it is too partisan---this, BEFORE the library director had seen the film.

I wrote back to the Middlebury Dem who wanted the screening and protested the director's censoring the film--- without seeing it, no less.

My new friend a few days later said she again spoke to the director using the censorship argument and again asked for the screening. Persuaded by the argument, the director agreed to ask the library board for the screening.

A few days later, my Middlebury friend wrote again, saying the library board had refused the screening. And again, no one on the board had seen the film.

Also, an acquaintance of mine on the Woodbury Dem Town Comm. bought the film and started to organize a screening. She then viewed the film herself and thought the scene(s) showing a penis at Abu Ghraib might turn off the general public. She said she thinks any screening should be all-Democrat because, "We don't need any bad press."

Expect major censorship over this film.

16. we showed it in the library
we had a showing of Iraq for Sale in our County library last night - part of an ongoing series called Movies with a Message - sponsored by our local group Bradford County Alliance for Democracy - http://www.bc-alliance.org/
we had 30 people show up- not bad for a rural -red- part of PA
we have shown Outfoxed, Wal Mart, Farenheit 911, The Hunting of the President, Paper Clips, The Power of Harmony, and many more - never a problem with censorship although the local Repubs wanted equal time for 911 which wasn't a problem- no indeeed - free speech lives in our library!!
by the way - no problem with the prison pictures - they are very grainy and hard to see anyway

10. Just saw it now... Now it's SO clear why we went to Iraq!
Funneling the cash to these bastards was THE reason we went! And these people are so soul less it almost makes you cry watching it!

11. Amazing - unbelievable - outrageous - CRIMINAL.
Privatization of military infrastructure is most corrupt phase of the Military Industrial Complex. It's one thing to start wars for profit...it's another thing to fuck over the very people that have sworn to defend the US Constitution and put their live in harms way for your profits.

Smells like the devil.

14. I tried posting about it (twice) but got deleted...
...no word as to why - but I wanted to call attention to the fact that the filmmaker dedicated most of the back jacket of the dvd to copying and sharing this film. So please do. Hope this doesn't get deleted. I think this film is excellent for reaching beyond the choir.

15. Just got back from a showing
This is one impressive film that needs to be shown widely. The effects of private contractors chasing profits on those unlucky enough to be employed by them (and their families) were very movingly illustrated as well.

21. We saw it here in Alamogordo, New Mexico
Robert Greenwald's film "Uncovered: The Truth About..." was the final straw that turned my fiance from a Bush supporter to protesting with us. Robert G creates the most amazing movies. I do wish everyone would see them.

14,000 house parties, I believe. So, At least 50,000 people saw it this weekend. My house party Saturday had 10 people, for example.

25. another way to support film
If you can't host a screening yourself, please help publicize the screenings already in the works. See the Iraq for Sale web site for the list: http://bravenewtheaters.com/screenings
