"Dismay" and "disdain" toward The Decider from former Poppy aides
One proud Poppy ... but

W follies mar legacy, ex-Prez's aides gripe

http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/461894p-388588c.html

BY THOMAS M. DEFRANK
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU CHIEF

The elder Bush voices public support for his son, but many of the former president's closest aides beg to differ.

WASHINGTON - At this month's christening of the nuclear aircraft carrier bearing his name, former President George H.W. Bush delivered a rousing endorsement of his son.

"I am very proud of our President," the elder Bush said in rain-swept ceremonies in Newport News, Va. "I support him in every single way with every fiber in my body."

Yet many of his closest former aides beg to differ. Indeed, one of the worst-kept secrets in Bush World is the dismay, in some cases disdain, harbored by many senior aides of the former President toward the administration of his son - 41 and 43, as many call them, political shorthand that refers to their numerical places in American presidential history.

For five years, the 41s have bit their collective tongues as, they complain, the 43s ignored their counsel. But as the war in Iraq has worsened and public support for the current administration has tanked, loyalists of the elder Bush have found it impossible to suppress their disillusionment - particularly their belief that many of 43's policies are a stick in the eye of his father. "Forty-three has now repudiated everything 41 stands for, and still he won't say a word," a key member of the elder Bush alumni said. "Personally, I think he's dying inside."

15. This disaster started at home ...
This president is the result of the WORST possible case of entitlement ... There are tens of thousands of George W Bushes out there ... Anti-social personalities litter this country ... Mostly, the damage is limited to those in their family, and those who are stupid enough to do business with them ...

But, this guy was born to wealth and power ... And, had a father who was either to oblivious to see what he had in his son, or was too weak to take him on ... More than anything, George W Bush needed a father who would both invest time in him AND discipline him ...

That his father let him go is sad ... But, it goes beyond that ... George H Bush COULD have put the skids on this disaster ... He could have worked to keep this idiot from getting to this point ... He SHOULD have ... If ANYONE should have known the absolute importance of having someone RESPONSIBLE in charge of this country, it should be an ex-president, and if ANYONE should have known how big a disaster this simp would be (and, being some nobody in PA, I could freakin tell WELL before 2000), it should have been this guys father ...

He was a bad president, but letting this disaster happen is on him, too ...

"I support him in every single way with every fiber in my body."

6. I think he's dying inside thinking Jeb won't be President in 2008.
I think the only thing that makes a Bush die inside is when they aren't in control and they don't get what they want. Other than that, everything else is irrelevant...at least within the walls of the Kennebunkport bunker.

3. They all knew what he was, having known him since he was a drinking,
drug-taking young egotistical asshole. Why would they have expected him to be any different when he became an old, dry-drunk, egotistical, asshole?
I am sure that the results we are seeing were expected by most of those surrounding Poppy. While he may not feel he himself can say anything publicly, I cannot believe that anyone around Poppy would be voicing an opinion with his approval.

that's not much of an endorsement is it?

BULLSHIT. Jr. has fucked this country royally, once again, Poppy has to somehow find some shreds to pick up and put back together.

for junior's marriage. Quoted a new Globe story that laura has had it and plans a divorce at the end of the term, and funny enough, contradicta's name came up in the story too...

Don't know if it's true, haven't seen the copy or a link, but it sure brightened my day!

This family has screwed the nation, and now too, the world, so badly that frankly, I savor anything tragic that happens to them. Revenge justice, perhaps, or karma. Doesn't matter. If they cause calamity on epic proportions, it should be visited back upon them in equal magnitude.

I don't ordinarily wish ill on people. But with these bastards, I just can't help myself. When I think of the misery and pain and tears and loss and death and violence and wreckage and mayhem and waste that they have brought upon so many millions of others, when I think of every new Cindy Sheehan they've created, when I think of every homeless former citizen of New Orleans, every floating body, every hungry child, every Iraqi child with his or her arms or legs blown off, every failing school, every overpampered CEO, every neglected veteran, I just can't help it. They bring out the beast in me. This family is singlehandedly the Biblical Plagues revisited. It's only fair and just that at least a small measure of that kind of anguish be returned to them.

And it's pretty damned disgusting when the thrust of at least some of the OP story seems to be the concern for that miserable old coot's legacy. THAT'S what they care about. Heaven forbid they spend a moment of concern on the millions of people they've hurt. Well, wait til some very shrewd future President orders all those sealed presidential records released - including ghwb's. He'll have done quite a number on his own legacy, I suspect.

18. Poppy looking better by comparison???? Heh.
In fact, the 41s suggest a singular irony: the unpopularity of the son's administration may be rehabilitating the father's.

"By comparison, the old man looks better and better," a senior 41 hand said, with undisguised satisfaction.

That says all you need to know if * is making is making "resume man" look good.

19. Backroom Gossip
I don't understand this idea that the 'old guard' should protect the prez at all costs.

They elevated this man to the point where he could become President. They have watched as he has made a mockery of everything American and everything democratic.

Why don't they stand up for their country? Is their loyalty to him and to their party more important than our democracy? Why this backroom talk? It's not going to do the country any good. They need to step up and stand for their country rather than duck and cover and protect.

I've heard Republicans say they will stay home rather than vote. Well, now...they made this mess so it seems to me if their country and their democracy is important to them they should be 'fighting' to save it from people such as those in this administration and those who support the administration.

It doesn't matter what they say behind the scenes. They need to convince the uninformed, the gullible, the duped that the Republican party has been taken over by a bunch of nuts and it's time for them to take back their party. I don't buy this idea that it's only the fault of this administration. It's the fault of every person who ever voted for this administration and if they want to stand up for their country they better start now instead of gossiping among themselves.
Republicans, on the whole, are bad enough, but these particular Republicans have no interest in democracy. It's time they were outed by their own.
