Curt Weldon blames former Schumer and Conyers Aide for Investigation

Tonight, I had the opportunity to hear Congressman Curt Weldon speak at Penn at an event sponsored by the Penn Israel Coalition (full disclosure: I am a PIC board member). The Congressman did not cancel his speaking engagement despite last night's headlines that he is purportedly under investigation by the FBI. The source of this investigation has so-far been kept anonymous. However, when I hear the word "anonymous," I usually become skeptical.

To my surprise, Congressman Weldon was quite open with his views as to why he is now front and center in the media only three weeks before the November elections. Weldon asserts that his sharp criticisms of the FBI, the CIA and other intelligence organizations have made them want to get back at him, namely by opening this investigation.

In my interview, Weldon alleges that the source of the news about him is Melanie Sloan, a former associate of John Conyers and Charles Schumer. She is currently the executive director of CREW. He also says that people such as Sandy Berger (former head of the NSA) and Mary McCarthy have donated to Sestak's campaign and are working to bring him down as revenge for his criticisms.

You heard it here first on The Spin:

16. Of course we run the FBI!
It's part of the liberal media. (A "cover" doncha know?)
The poor con-men are must make-do with just the bare, mean tools we've left them.
They were mostly all born in a covered wagon or a log cabin, in Penury, Illinois, near the road the Lincolns traveled on their way to Springfield.

They are simple, god-fearin' folk whose rustic, Lincolnesque tough talk makes them the ideal leaders and ambassadors and their charm and warm countrified intellect will always have them come out the winners in our guided missile against their bows and arrows fight.

They win because their hearts are pure while we are the satanic minions of George Soros and moveon.org.

Who just happen to discover their innocent foibles right before election and can't keep our mouths shut--shame on us!

17. And the FBI helped us "throw" the 2000 & 2004 elections to throw the 'pugs
off until we could nab DeLay, Foley, Ney, etc.

2. Well even if it were true...he should know that the Republicans
are under the microscope.....he participated with the Neocons to destroy America...no sympathy here..

Melanie Sloan has done a lot of work...she is tenacious ....the Repugs don't like it when their feet are held to the fighter..

6. Blame the Dems...
It's always the fault of those who disclose their immorality and lack of integrity. And I suppose it's the fault of a liberal district attorney that someone commits murder by virtue of his position as accuser. :sarcasm:

not about what he was involved in. No shame and incapable of guilt, the Republican way.

12. And getting caught just before an important election
is just not playing fair!

If I were mr. Weldon I would not invoke the name of Melanie Sloan or even get people thinking she might be the source of my woes. Every single instance of my own experience of ms. Sloan has informed me that she was spot on, well informed (as circumstances allow) and has never, never lied, exaggerated or attempted to put her thumb on the ethical scales in any way.

If, in fact, she said you did it, I bet you did, mr. Weldon.

13. Yeah, that is SUCH utter bullshit!!
These crooks act like we should be blaming the people who are investigating them, rather than being outraged at what tehy have done. Unfrickinbelievable!

If it was a CON who exposed someone, or brought justice to bear, it would be such a noble cause. Makes me :puke:

19. you beat me by minutes. here's a K&R. the more publicity the better!
talk it up DU! The more we chatter on-line the more media seems to respond. If you want more info on the FBI raids on Weldon and his daughter, check out my OP. For now, ponder this:

FBI Raids Homes of Weldon Child, Friend

MEDIA, Pa. Oct 16, 2006 (AP)— The FBI raided the homes of Rep. Curt Weldon's daughter and a close friend Monday as it investigates whether the congressman improperly helped the pair win lobbying and consulting contracts.

Agents searched four locations in the Philadelphia area and two in Jacksonville, Fla., said Debbie Weierman, an FBI spokeswoman in Washington. The congressman's home and his offices were not among the locations searched, she said....

Weldon, regarded by some as a foreign policy expert, has clashed at times with the Bush administration. In the last year, he has repeatedly said a secret military unit called "Able Danger" used data-mining to link four Sept. 11 hijackers to al-Qaida more than a year before the attacks. A Pentagon report rejected the idea.

22. They talked about this angle on the news last night
Melanie said that she has no control over when the feds step in. If she did have that much power I'm sure she would have had the Foley case investigated much sooner.

I'm sure she's been working on this for some time. She's going to be the new punching bag.

The party of personal responsiblity is looking for someone else to blame.
