Joe-Mentum: Can Anything Be Done? This is Bad Stuff! |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-17-06 09:01 AM by MannyGoldstein
Given how things are going, it looks like Lieberman will win in CT, and that his win might end up keeping the Democrats from having a majority in the Senate. Even worse, a Lieberman win will embolden the other craven DINOs to pursue their triangulating ways.
Realistically, is there any way that we can help this really shitty situation, other than sending money to a millionaire? Perhaps some sort of door-to-door voter education drive? I'm in Mass, but I'd be happy to take a trip down to the Nutmeg State. Heck, I'd wager that I could get a whole lot of people to head down with me.

1. Unfortunately Lamont didn't go for the "kill" after the primaries |
|
And now he seems to have backed off of his attacks on Lieb.
The semi- good news is that Lieb will stay in the Dem party and count as one more seat toward majority

5. Correct. Lamont went on vacation and decreased his ads. |
|
He needed to knock Lieberman out in August.

Some things to consider...
First, Schlesinger may make some headway given his showing in the first debate and the positive notices he is beginning to get in the media. If this happens, his support will come entirely from Lieberman who recieves 75% support from Republicans.
Second, Lamont's Democratic supporters are the "well-informed" Democrats, which are MORE ENERGIZED and MORE LIKELY to vote on election day.
Third, Lieberman doesn't have much of a GOTV operation compared with Lamont who has the backing of the Democratic Party machinery in Conneticut.
Fourth, Lamont's new ads - which are airing in heavy rotation - are more hard hitting on Lieberman.
Finally, Schlesinger's name appears at the top of the ballot on the Republican line, next to Republican Governor Rell. Lamont is number two. Lieberman is fifth or sixth.
So we have some things working for us. Keep the faith.

6. Whom do you think is supporting Lieberman? |
|
Much of his support comes from Republicans. And yes, Republicans are idiots. So you're right when you say that idiots will vote for Lieberman, but it shouldn't be that hard to believe.

9. Lamont ran a great primary campaign. |
|
Then, inexplicably, after the primary was over and the main campaign began, there were NO NEW ADS. He ran the same ones directed at Dems which I feel were not a good way to attract the Independent votes he needs. Then Lieberman started running attack ad after attack ad. Lamont was slow to respond. Now he has put out a few good ads but he let Lieberman gain momentum. In addition, there have been few prominent Democrats that have publicly campaigned for him after the primary. I think what is most hurtful to him is the fact that the State Democrats have been silent. And silence to me I think is interpreted as support for Lieberman even though they are not campaigning for him either. And don't forget the GOP has poured funds into Lieberman's campaign. I hope Lamont can catch up but He really needed to come out of the starting block right after the primary and be very aggressive. And he didn't.
