Poll question: Which close senate race would be the BIGGEST win for us? |
|
I personally think it would be Ford in Tennessee. Talk about huge.
Virginia would be huge as well, but Makaka is damaged goods so I don't think a win there would be quite as impressive as it would be in very very red Tennessee.
I love our chances in Missouri and Ohio as well!
New Jersey is a disaster, so?????
I know, how about a SWEEP of all five of these races!!!!
Am I forgetting any other close, close contest?

1. Hi, cboy4. Good poll. I chose 'Missouri' but any answer works because |
|
the Republicans running in those races are unimaginative, flat-spirited, rubber-stamping flunkies.
DeWine is one of the most neglibigle political personalities I've ever seen. And to think Ohio was once represented by Howard Metzenbaum. I hope Brown kicks Dewine's fanny from Toledo to the Ohio River.
Talent's opposition to stem cell research kind of typifies his cluelessness. If stem cell research does not ensure beneficial medical outcomes, opposing it on religious grounds is still ridiculous. Talent was a fool to oppose this research.
Cement-Head Allen deserves to lose unanimously in Virginia. What a thug. What a bully. What a dumbshit. Webb is not the most progressive Democrat around, but he'll do in Virginia if Allen's ouster is within reach. And it is.
And Ford -- you're right -- would be huge. If we might prefer a Kennedy/Kerry line-up in Tennessee, we might settle for a Ford win over Corker. I watched their debate on C-Span and thought Corker was a character on the Waltons. He's kind of a hat-in-hand, country preacher kind of guy -- not someone I want in charge of the nation's future.
Good poll.

3. HaHa...good response O.C. - - I agree with you about everything; I've |
|
watched all of the "debates" on Meet The Press.....I hope Ford-Corker is/are scheduled.
Just saw them both on ABC's This Week, and Ford is really growing on me, even though you know I'm not particularly thrilled with his stance on some social issues.
Never-the-less, I support my party! Go Harold!

8. They're not because Corker refused it. |
|
He's too scared to debate Ford on national television. GOP Senate candidate Bob Corker has turned down an invitation to debate Dem Harold Ford Jr. on "Meet the Press." MTP's executive producer, Betsy Fischer, has just told Election Central that they got the news from Corker this morning. "The campaign called us a little while ago and said that they were not going to be participating," Fischer says. "They did not give a reason." MTP is hosting six Senate debates this fall. Fischer tells us that Corker was "the only Republican to decline."http://www.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2006/sep/07/tn_sen_exclusive_corker_declines_to_debate_ford_on_meet_the_press

2. Yes they all work but... Virginia |
|
The Republicans never dreamed they could lose that one. The Republicans are being forced to divert big money into that one. Virginia is half the national mdedia's bedroom community, whatever happens there gets amplified. That's a part of why Warner immediately became an 08 frontrunner, and of why Kain'e victory there made such a big splash (not the only reason I know, but part of it).

7. Tennessee or Virginia - but I picked Tennessee (since I live there) |
|
Tennessee because it would just be so awesome for a Southern states to send a black man to the Senate. That's just an incredible upheaval of everything (including, sadly, many on DU) people outside of the South believe about the South.
But, I understand the ramifications also of taking out Sean InSannity's favorite presidential candidate from Virgina, too. :)

19. VA would be big but Arizona would be HUGH! If we win Arizona, it would |
|
almost have to be a result of a Democratic tidal wave that would result in Dems controlling both houses with at least a couple of seats to spare in the Senate and 15 to 25 extra seats in the House. Hugh I say.

It'd be great if it did because Kyle is such an ass hole, but I think Dems have decided to spend the money in VA, TN, and MO.

16. I say VA, because Allen has been bandied about as a Prez candidate. |
|
If Allen loses, he won't get any traction for the Presidency.
I would put TN as a close second though, as a great come-from-behind victory. And wouldn't he be TN's first black Senator?

22. Virginia. Puts the lie to the belief that Dems are weak on defense. |
|
Webb, who was against the war, could kick Leiberman's butt in those caucuses. And if Joe caucuses with the Republicans, Webb could kick Looserman's butt in the corridors of the Senate building. Uh, figuratively of course.

Connecticut is the one race where we absolutely need THE DEMOCRAT to win....I don't know how close this race really is....but imo, it IS the most important Senate race we have going..for more than one reason...and then winning all the rest of them would be heart stopping great... wb

25. Great poll, it's a tough call. |
|
I was torn between Virginia, and Tennessee, but ultimately I said Tennessee. I think Frist's seat going to an African American Democrat would really be something. Plus, when I first heard about him winning the nomination, it seemed like people really doubted he could actually win. Now his chances seem pretty good.

26. Anyone who could have a party leadership position, or be a major party |
|
candidate.
Taking control of the senate is the most important thing right now; but in the long-term it's also important to stop the careers of people who are likely to end up with serious national or international power.
If Allen really is a potential GWB No. 2, then getting rid of him seems quite important.
Though I would expect that even if Allen is re-elected, the challenge to him and his publicized idiotic remarks might seriously damage his chances of becoming president or having huge influence on future Republican party decisions (and the same might be true of other Republicans who have faced unexpected problems, and perhaps also Lieberman on the Dem side?) If so, then the challenge to his power won't have been completely in vain, even if he keeps his seat this time.
It's important to stop the future Reagans and GWBs, Thatchers and Blairs, in their tracks, before they start having dangerous power over their countries and other parts of the world. Trouble is, it can be hard to recognize in time who they are.

28. Tennessee - Hands Down !! |
|
An African American Democrat taking over a seat held by the Senate Majority Leader would be a HUGH pick-up!
Rep. Ford has run an excellent VALUES campaign in Tennessee. Frankly we Dems need to use the term VALUES more often. The VALUES of education, health care, environment, and families. Repukes TALK about "values". We Dems need to LIVE values.
What is more MORAL than taking care of and helping those who are the most needy among us?

30. New Jersey will, without a doubt, go blue |
|
This is standard NJ election - the republican will look like they're gonna win it all but in the end it'll be the democrat that comes out victorious. The scandal they tried to pin on Menendez was absolute weak and practically a non-issue plus Menendez, despite that vote with the tortue bill, has been solidly anti-war/anti Patriot Act. He'll win!

32. Don't freak out too much about NJ |
|
Remember all those polls showing NJ close before the '04 election? Kerry won by about 8%. Now that wasn't as big as Gore's margin of victory there, but it was still comfortable. And the campaign didn't spend too much on the state. The state tends to be difficult to poll and generally breaks democratic.
I'd have to say that otherwise VA and CT would huge wins. VA was never supposed to be in play unless Warner was running. Lamont winning CT would be sweet in its own way though.
