Pelosi; Statement on Signing of Military Commission Bill
http://democraticleader.house.gov

"Democrats voted overwhelmingly to go to war in Afghanistan so those responsible for the 9/11 attacks would be brought to justice.More than five years later, because of the failure of the Bush Administration to devise a legal process that could withstand the scrutiny of the Supreme Court, not a single person who planned the attacks has been tried and convicted."

" That record of failure is unlikely to be improved by the military commission bill President Bush signed today. Legal challenges to the bill may result in convictions being overturned, punishments being set aside , and justice being further delayed. In addition , because the bill allows the President to interpret the Geneva Conventions though executive order, it invites other countries to do the same, thereby weakening the international legal standards that have protected our troops for decades."

"Democrats want terrorist who kill Americans tried, convicted , ans punished through a constitutionally sound process that will be upheld on appeal. That goal will not be achieved by the bill President Bush signed today."

7. You will notice, sir . . .
That I said 2007, not 2008.

That should imply that I wasn't talking about an election.

9. I was hoping that was what you meant.
I think the impeachment and removal of the Chimp and all his cronies - followed by their trial, conviction, and execution or life imprisonment for their many crimes - is the only thing that will stop their repeated degradations of our country. Every 20 years or so, these bastards show up and ruin things. I'm specifically thinking of Watergate, Iran-Contra, and the current mess.

6. Could it possibly be that the reason no single person who planned
...the 9/11 attacks has been tried and convicted yet, is because the real people how planned and executed the attacks are being protected by the Bush administration? In other words they have the wrong people in detention. Now the torture bill will not change that fact, but could get false confessions from people who would otherwise not be compelled to admit to anything.

12. My understanding is that 1) most of the 9/11 Commission's
information about al Qaeda and its role in the attacks came
from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and

2) the gov't has said KSM can not be tried because his testimony
is tainted by torture

3) the 9/11 Commission never interviewed KSM directly

4) the Commissioners at one point discussed whether they should
talk to the guy or at least listen in on the phone while he was
being interrogated

5) they never did either of the above, but instead relied upon
transcripts provided them by the US intelligence agencies.

Does that sound like a diligent investigation to you?
