Anyone from California out there?????
My mom, who died this past May, was a constituent of John Doolittle. She lived in Yuba City, before she moved in with me here in Florida, after she became very ill. While she was in California, she vowed to do whatever she could at her age of 83 to see that Doolittle was defeated. She told me that he was such a crook and so was his wife and that it was almost impossible to get the old folks where she lived to see that. But, she was very persistent. Some even started to agree with her. Anyway, I haven't kept up with his race for the House. What's going on there? Does his opponent have a chance? Can anyone out there give me some information? A big thank you for those of you who can let me know.

2. Justice Department Targets John Doolittle in Abramoff Corruption Probe
Edited on Tue Oct-17-06 11:58 AM by villager
I read the news today, oh boy...

Justice Department Targets John Doolittle in Jack Abramoff Corruption Probe

By blogswarm | bio

In Saturday's Washington Post, Susan Schmidt and James Grimaldi cited multiple sources as revealing that Congressman Doolittle is the target of a "federal task force that includes a dozen Justice Department prosecutors" investigating Jack Abamoff’s bribery of Members of Congress.

Doolittle took more than $140,000 from Abramoff and his associates and worked on behalf of Abramoff’s clients. Additionally, the congressman received tens of thousands of dollars in direct payment from Abramoff though the disgraced lobbyist’s employment of the Congressman’s wife in what investigators named The Wive's Club.

Despite Doolittle's denials, Justice targeting Doolittle appears to be corroborated by Federal Election Commission filings posted online on Sunday that show Doolittle paid Williams Mullen, a Virginia criminal defense law firm, $38,378 over the last few months. Earlier in the year, Doolittle paid the firm a $10,000 retainer.

6. Condolences about your mom - mine is circling the drain even as
we speak. Sigh...

I hope doolittle gets done, but good. Especially in honor of your mom's memory! But then we have several assholes out here, another one being that revolting dana rohrabacher. But then, he's in Orange County, where for the most part, it can't be helped much - although enough of 'em saw the light to get rid of the dreaded "B-One Bob" - bob dornan, awhile ago, and he hasn't darkened our door since, Thank God! It's a great relief and comfort to me that I live in Henry "The Righteous" Waxman's district.

8. Your mom
Sorry about your mom. Keep your chin up and spend as much time with her as you can. I was blessed to be able to have her here and have hospice in for her. She was so smart and fun to talk with about politics. She was once very conservative, but decided that after Bush was elected, the country was going to go to hell. We used to watch c-span together and she shouted at the neocons as much as I did. It was fun to watch. Going to donate to Charlie Brown's campaign. I'm sure she is up there laughing now at all the scummy repukes.

10. I wish I could say the same, politically anyway. She'll go out not

understanding why bush was so horrible on every count, along with his party and the other whores he rode in on. She even donated to his 2004 campaign. When I expressed my utter horror, she said - "well, it was only five dollars..." She recently remarried, and while the guy is nice and quite lovely to all of us and extremely kind and good to her (especially in her increasingly disabled state), he's an absolutely hopeless knuckle-dragger. The best I ever got out of her as far as "saving her soul" politically was in the days after Katrina, when bush's name came up and she actually said "he sure let everybody down." I actually thought I was hearing things! Unfortunately, I doubt it would stop her from voting republi-CON - and with OR without my step-father.

Oh, btw - did I say "Welcome to DU!"?

Welcome to DU!!! And much love to your mom - sounds like she's a guardian angel for that district!

7. Your dear mom is smiling because the race is a statistical dead heat
and that's from an August poll. I haven't seen any new polls, but I suspect Charlie Brown has moved ahead because he has been hammering Doolittle relentlessly, and for all intents and purposes Doolittle has gone to ground in an attempt to weather the storm.

There is a very good chance the seat could flip.

Here's a compilation of all of Doolittle's soundbites from his 11 Oct debate - he ain't got nothing but attack buzzwords: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4ItqcqOJf4

9. listen to AM 1320 AAR Enid Goldstein covers this and other races
She's GREAT. Gave a scathing critique of Do-Little's performance in the debate.

Also, Natomas has a serious levee problem that they're trying to quick-fix before the rains come. Have to wait til next year to fix it right.

Since Do-Little built his career on preventing flood control (he wanted his damn Dam) for Sacramento, he looks like shit right about now.

11. Really, really sorry about your mother.....
Charlie Brown has a good chance to win this seat!

Here's some local coverage covered in the papers and here at DU by moi. As a Gen. Clark supporter, I can tell you that Wes was there a week ago giving Brown a big boost! :patriot:

Note: This race is drawing national attention -- even Rolling Stone magazine rates it as one of the 10 most competitive congressional races -- which could tip the balance of power in Washington.
