Schlesinger "steals show" in debate with Lamont & Lieberman
Alan Schlesinger got a few laughs by being the "wise guy" at the debate yesterday. Actually, it was kind of funny.

1. He cracked me up.
I really didn't agree with much of what he said but he made the debate exciting, fun and refreshing.

I think what he said helps Lamont. He portrayed LIEberman as a liberal DEM and one who repukes shouldn't vote for.

LIEberman was awful as usual. Always on the defensive.

Lamont did a fair job. He didn't hurt himself, I don't think, which is always a good thing.

But Schlesinger's remarks on Mexico and the immigration issue. Made him seem like a racist.

2. Ned looked a little stunned, IMHO
But, as always, his gracious persona and his intelligence just shone through. But I don't think he was expecting this "cabaret" act by Schlesinger. Somebody should tell him that a senatorial debate is not a casino...

4. Ned needs to slow down his pace a bit.
And not be so fidegty.
When he wasn't talking with his hands, he had his right hand on the podium and you can hear the hand tapping the podium.

6. Bolton Is "Supposedly" Pro-Israel
That's all Lieberman really cares about. It's also why he supports King george, as he views him also as a friend of Israel.

7. I really don't believe that
I do believe that he is strongly pro-Israel. But I think he views himself primarily as some kind of bi-partisan, above it all, fair minded and even handed "reasonable" leader. He just doesn't get it that he is an enabler of the worst president ever. He is in denial and has left Connecticut in his mind and (mostly)in his person. He and Hadassah sold their house here and now have a rented condo downtown, away from his old neighborhood and synagogue. No roots left. He and Hadassah are now D.C. residents for all that I care!

Funny, I thought he *was* the Republican.

Theoretically, anyway.

10. Lamont needed to debate things like abortion...
and school vouchers and intelligent design with Schlesinger.

"Schlesinger thinks that women should not have the right to choose, Lieberman and I disagree".

The more votes that Schlesinger gets, the fewer that Lieberman gets.

12. That won't really cut it in CT
There just aren't that many fundie voters in CT that would swoon to that message and flock to Schlesinger in order to make a difference. Elsewhere in the country, yes, but in CT, not so much.

Today's "sound-off" in the NH Register showed some Schlesinger voters, some anti-Ned voters, some anti-Joe voters and more than a few "can't stand any of them" voters. Interesting.

While I think Schlesinger got the attention of the general voting public, I'm not sure he did more than move the needle a few points up. But since he was at a low of 3%-9%, even that is pretty pathetic.
