Can't John Edwards make a comeback with the south? |
|
Again, as a Kerry supporter I have no intention of saying that Kerry is weak on the south. But, Edwards has definitely done better there so far than Kerry has. So lets say for kicks that Wes Clark drops out (this is just hypothetical). Most of those Clark votes would probably go to Edwards and thus he's probably do very well in the south. Would this put him close to Kerry's numbers or would this not make enough of a differenece.

doing better in the South.
He's more popular in my part of the South (TX), and in LA and AR, too.

2. Yeah, but he can't fight the national trends. |
|
It is obvious to me that the Dem 'party' has already made up its mind. Gary Hart couldn't fight exactly that, in 1984, and that was years before Donna Rice. He tried, but the forces against him were overwhelming. I think it's over, for all practical purposes, unless something earth shaking occurs.

3. Clark won't drop out by next Tues |
|
... and Kerry has SO MUCH momentum now that I think he will be hard to stop. Edwards thinks that he will do so much better one on one with Kerry but how is he going to counter his national security creds?
Kerry just had a huge day. That is going to impact Tuesday. If he wins TN and Virginia - even by one point, I think both Edwards and Clark are going to be hard pressed to stay in. And if Clark drops out first - I bet he endorses Kerry.

5. Clark has every intention on Winning Tenn. |

Period....
If he does that, he will be the only candidate to have won two states, especially since Edwards was born in South Carolina, this will have a HUGE effect on peoples choices for Super Tueday.
No my friend if Edwards loses to Clark in Tenn. It will be Edwards campaign that goes on life-support, not Wes Clark's.

8. I don't think you should give up ... |

... anything can happen. And the more Clark pound Bush - the better for the Dem party. And If Kerry falters - then Clark has the security creds in the race.

6. Clark's still fighting |
|
Kerry has a freight train right now. Something is going to have to come out of the blue for Edwards or Clark (and I say this as a southerner and Clark supporter). But neither will I or Clark supporters will give up and the same for Edwards supporters.

7. As a Clark guy, I will tell you that this is over. |
|
Had Clark or Edwards dropped out after NH, maybe if they'd dropped even after Tuesday, there would have been a shot for the other one to use the South as a springboard for the rest of the country. But it's too late now. The best that could happen is that one of them becomes a regional candidate and sweeps most of the South -- Kerry would still finish second or third in all the southern states and keep picking up delegates, while crushing almost everywhere else. McCauliffe is getting what he wanted out of this wretched format: a quick primary. I think it produced the third best candidate, but what's done is done.
