Who else thinks that third party supporters are just looking
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 10:28 AM by mrcheerful
for an easy fix to political corruption and other dirty deeds? For awhile now I been researching the libertarian party and libertarians who swear that their party is going to fix all thats wrong with america in a few short years. I don't understand how that will happen because every party has high ideals, until they get to DC where lobbyist's and PAC groups will overwhelm them with money to vote for special interest groups. I think the best thing we the voters can do is change how our elected public servants do business by changing lobby laws and restrict PAC groups or limit elections to something like free air time nation wide, after all americas air waves belong to we the people and we should have a say on how they are used. Which in effect will end the need for election monies.

Voting a third party in will not stop corruption nor fix america's problems when only a few are allowed to influence our politicians. IMHO. Edited to add, or am I just getting election sickness and worried about votes being stole.

1. When the major parties refuse to listen to their constituents,
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 10:49 AM by TechBear_Seattle
... when they sell-out national resources to political supporters, when they are unable to take necessary action to avert environmental crises without losing their financial backing from major industries, when they endorse patently illegal and immoral wars, when they vote for bigoted laws, when they consistently enable the shredding of the Constitution, when they rubberstamp Supreme Court justices who hate everything America is, when they persist in supporting ambassadors whose idea of diplomacy is to beat up anyone who stands in their way, who insist in "keeping their power dry for a real fight" and allow abuses to human decency and democratic principles to pile higher and deeper....

WHAT THE BLOODY HELL ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO? CONTINUE TO VOTE FOR THESE PEOPLE?

Honest question, but I don't expect an honest answer.

2. Which is why getting involved in your party is so important, hopefully
you can stop the stinkers before they get elected. Come on everyone from Reagan to shrub were known screw ups and known to vote for special interests before they would for the voters that elect them. The main reason they get in is because the vast majority never research the people they vote for, they rely on TV ads and the news to tell them who is the better man for the job. American voters are a lazy lot, they expect the person they vote for to do the things they said they would then until they screw up the voters ignore them until the next election cycle. They continue doing that till the elected servant retires or screws up. Notice the people of DU were not surprised by Reagan, Bush or GW, they researched the people and saw what they were about and who was backing them. The people of DU are rare though, most voters want someone else to "tell" them that. Then when all else fails they throw up their hands and cry we need a third party.
