Help Needed Please!: DNC Fundraising Info |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 09:08 PM by demwing
2004 and 2005 set a new DNC record for fund raising.
But I can't for the life of me find any updates on how Dr. Dean's doin' for the DNC in 2006.
The best I can come up with is that we had about 9 million on hand half way through the year, but no mention of gross funds brought in.
Can I get some info on this? Any help DUers? I've got a freep on the ropes, and need to go in for the kill.

8. Right, I heard that as well |
|
That Dean borrowed the $$$ to loan to the DCCC because they were pressing him to free up some cash he had earmarked for the 50 state strategy.
Good plan, really. It's one thing to ask for money that you want to give away, and quite another to ask for a special donation fund to pay down a debt. Wickedly smart.

2. Try the "Open Secrets" website. |

The last I saw, the DCCC and DSCC had raised about as much as their Republican counterparts, and the DNC had raised about half as much as the RNC.

3. Thanks, but Im confused |
|
Democrats.org says that the DNC raised 45M in 2004, 51M in 2005.
The Open Secrets site lists donations by election cycles, which run every 2 years (1999/2000, 2001/2002, etc.).
2004 and 2005 are in different cycles, but I can't seem to get the numbers to add up.
What am I doing wrong?

the 2006 numbers to be apx 65% of the 2005-2006 cycle, and the 2004 numbers to be about the same % of the 2003-2004 cycle, because those years were election years.
But I'm seeing total receipts of about 312M for the 2003-4 cycle, whereas from other reports I've heard that there was only about 45M raised in 2004.
Where am I missing the boat? Am I misinterpreting the term "cycle"?

Eric J in MN also sent me to OS, but the link you gave looks different than the data I found.
I appreciate the help, but it appears I'm unschooled in the ways of reporting fund raising figures. Trying to figure out how the democratic.org site shows Dean raised 51M in 2005, but the OS site shows the 23005-6 cycle at about 102M. I would have expected a heavier response in 2006 because of the midterms.

9. Money spread out in 2006 |
|
Last year, the DNC was the main fundraising mechanism, especially getting the 50 state strategy launched. This year, the money is being spread all over the place, DSCC, DCCC, individual campaigns, politicians' PACs. It sort of seems logical to me that the DNC would actually earn less.
