I just returned from a few weeks back south visiting family and friends, and while there are still an overwhelming number of W stickers on large gas guzzling SUVs w/ confederate battle flag decals and shotgun racks in the back windows of pick-ups and plenty of racist/anti-gay,anti-choice LTTE in the local fishwraps, the mother of an old running buddy of mine came out to eat with us one night. miss Ann has impeccable southern conservative creds and is a regular church going woman. her son is nearing the biug 50 like me, so miss Ann ain't no spring chicken herself. when the talk turned to politics she quite vociferously allowed as to how she had no use for W or the GOP any longer, and that she quite digusted and hurt beyond words about the whole "toture thing" and found it unbelievable that it was America doing that.she also let on that she couldn't see how any true Xtian could let such horrible things go on i seriously doubt miss Ann walks alone. it warmed my heart cockles anat. it took a long time but maybe, just maybe, the sleeping masses are waking up...
