Probable Headline: Bitter Dean Snubs Kerry in VP Bid
Did anyone see Dean on, I think, NBC, saying he'd encourage Kerry, if he is the nominee, not to choose Dean as his running mate? He said the Democrats don't need two people from New england, and he then promised to do whatever it takes to defeat Bush.

Another example of forthright candor on dean's part, that will likely be spun against him. Or maybe he DID snub Kerry? Who can tell anymore in this madcap, mixed-up world....

What do you think of his saying that? Would he have stood a chance of getting a VP nod, anyway?>

1. He was being realistic.
Two people from same region not good. Like people from same state. Remember Cheney and Bush both from Texas. Cheney went back to Wyoming. Too bad he didn't stay there.

4. He brings the only money machine out there
the DNC is broke. He brings a lot of people who work hard and none of us will work for Kerry. You stick to your 48 state looser.

10. True..he only has a very large money machine and grassroots
going for him. And a lot of newbies to the voting and political arena which could help tip the GE to the dem candidate. And Dean has a spine and doesnt have to wait til someone else says something or the polls show its okay to make a stand, which I am sorry to say does not describe Kerry, or least not the Kerry Ive seen in the last 3 years.

11. Yes, that 41 million he raised in $75 donations from regular Americans
was less than nothing.

The spine he gave he Democratic party was less than nothing.

The 150,000 activist citizens he had meeting in 50 states a full year before the election was nothing whatsoever.

The 30% he pulled in Washington despite no ads and no media support was nothing.

And the record turnout in primaries would have been there anyway if you substituted in another pink tutu.

You know who bring nothing to any national ticket? John Kerry. OK, he does bring one thing -- the fact that he strategicially decided to go kill some poor Vietnamese over 30 years ago because he thought it would help him become President someday. But that's it.

3. Kerry wouldn't pick Dean
Vermont has only 4 electoral votes. Or is it 3?

The VP will be someone from another part of the country, and probably a swing state. I don't know why Dean brought this up in the first place.

13. I believe Kerry will pick Dick Gephardt for VP

Missouri is one of the swing states, and Gep has been working for Kerry since he dropped out of the race himself.

he was asked the question by a reporter.

And VT has 3 electoral votes.

5. Kerry won't pick Dean.
Electorally it makes no sense and temperamentally they are ill suited to be a team. It wouldn't look too good for Kerry to be continually upstaged by his Veep.

6. It's something he could have left unsaid
Usually the ticket tries to achieve some kind of regional balance. Two New Englanders don't do that.

Kerry would be wise to pick a Southerner. A Midwesterner would be another possibility. The very same advice would go to Dean.

15. I think he's being honest, let the press feed like the vultures they are
I frankly don't give a rat's patooie how they spin it. And, as far as I'm concerned, I'd have a really really difficult time accepting the superior person being relegated to the inferior position.

17. That ass Blitzer
Actually did characterize Howard's statement as "Leaving the door open."

I know he's a colossal dullard, but that's absurd, even for him x(
