AP: GOP starts airing ad Sunday warning of cataclysmic terror attacks
GOP to Air Ad Warning of Terror Attacks
Oct 19

The Republican Party will begin airing a hard-hitting ad this weekend that warns of more cataclysmic terror attacks against the U.S. homeland.

The ad portrays Osama bin Laden and quotes his threats against America dating to February 1998. "These are the stakes," the ad concludes. "Vote November 7."

Brian Jones, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, said the ad would run on national cable beginning Sunday, but he declined to discuss specifics of the buy....

***

The ad displays an array of quotes from bin Laden and his top lieutenant, Ayman al-Zawahiri, that include bin Laden's Dec. 26, 2001 vow that "what is yet to come will be even greater."

The ad is also featured on the RNC's Web site. The party said the ad, called "The Stakes," will be e-mailed to millions of GOP supporters, activists and the state parties.

This is somthing that can be easily used against the gop and something that needs to be done PRONTO
..as it is proof they are politicizing 911 as well as highlighting the vulnerability the GOP has given to our national security.

7. I was thinking the same thing........
they should air an ad with FDR saying 'there is nothing to fear but fear itself'

or Edward R Murrow saying 'we are not descended of fearful men'

...(if that is even possible by "voting")...you can bet your ass they are going to have some of their Saudi friends hit us as they did on 9-11.

8. Dems need to counter with the same ad
only this time showing the * administrations response to Katrina, the escape of OBL in Afganistan, the failed *war in Iraq, the nuclear test in NK, the response of * to the Plame scandel, etc, etc.
When the stakes are so high who you gonna call?

44. Or, show this "ad"
1) Osama announces all Americans get out of Saudi Arabia
2) US says it doesn't yield to terrorism
3) Osama attacks on 9/11/01
4) Americans get out of Saudi Arabia

Then conclude by saying: "Appeasement didn't work for Neville Chamberlain; it won't work for George W. Bush..." or, "Who said we don't negotiate with terrorists?" with a photo of GW Bush.

An afterthought: I'm not sure a whole lot of Americans will know who Neville Chamberlain was...

47. Very good
I counter every repug who thinks * is leading some sort of war on terrorism with the fact that the only demand the 911 terrorists had was to remove the bases from SA. As the binladen family flew out of America, military bases left SA by *s order.

9. I just saw it. Boring. Racist. And a wee bit shrill.
Same old, same old. The people who can be swayed by that are already in their column. The rest have seen thru it.

Does explain the mindset keeping us in Iraq.

Anybody noticing that the worse the poll numbers for the Republicans, the better the Dow?

41. Dems need a unified message and QUICK
Scare tactics like this actually work, people. It's been documented that when people are reminded of death in any way, they behave in the following way: becoming more complacent, more likely to follow rules, more likely to follow the "norm" of society, whatever that is.

In other words, death threats make people more likely to vote for the party already in power, and that's the republicans this year. This is why we won't win the house back.

If I was in charge of the dems, I'd find a central theme, a quick short phrase, and have a message for this election to counter all this fear mongering.

Maybe we need to run up a follow up ad that says if you're really afraid of Bin Laden, better vote for someone who will bother to go after him.

18. And it will work, unless DEMS w/ media access have the guts to re-frame
Edited on Thu Oct-19-06 06:13 PM by Dr Fate
Like:

"Bush failed to capture Bin Laden, just like he failed to prevent 9/11- we need change."

"Bush and the Republicans are hiding from the fact that they failed to capture Bin Laden- just like they helped to hide child molesters in congress"

"Bush lied us into Iraq, and forgot all about Bin laden until he needed him for these ads"

Folks, this ad will work- make no mistake-It baffles me as to why, but it works- UNLESS DEMS get off their butts quick and REFRAME- and not with nuance- but with tough, pointed rebuttles like above.

24. Dems should run a counter-ad
"On October 12, 2000, Osama bin Laden did the best he could in attacking the US - the USS Cole. After tracing it back to ObL, Clinton had suspects under scrutiny. On January 21, 2001, George W. Bush and the Republicans were more interested in trying to see if they could arrest Al Gore for 'trashing the White House offices' and investigating missing W keys ... and took investigators away from Florida flight schools where known suspects were training ..."

Our Republican President
His Republican Administration
The Republican-led Senate
The Republican-led House

We're still not safe. It's time for a change.

Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 01:32 AM by fuzzyball
and if that happens, repubs will lose big timeon Nov 7, 2006.

And if we are not attacked before Nov 8th, what happens
if there is a 911 style attack after dems win congress?
I have to guess we will then be in huge jeopardy in 2008.

My hope is there are no attacks.
