Joint Chiefs chairman: Rumsfeld "Leads way Lord tells him is best"

Top US general says Rumsfeld is inspired by God

MIAMI (AFP) - The top US general defended the leadership of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, saying it is inspired by God. "He leads in a way that the good Lord tells him is best for our country," said Marine General Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Rumsfeld is "a man whose patriotism focus, energy, drive, is exceeded by no one else I know ... quite simply, he works harder than anybody else in our building," Pace said at a ceremony at the Southern Command (Southcom) in Miami.

Rumsfeld has faced a storm of criticism and calls for his resignation, largely over his handling of the
Iraq war. But he got a strong show of support from the military establishment at Thursday's ceremony, where Navy Admiral James Stavridis took over Southcom's command from General Bantz Craddock.

"He comes to work everyday with a single-minded focus to make this country safe," said Stavridis who was a senior aide to Rumsfeld before taking on the Southcom job. "We're lucky as a nation that he continues to serve with such passion and such integrity and such determination and such brilliance," said Stavridis, 51.

1. I'm sorry: "General Bantz Craddock?"
If you don't know the guy's name, Mr. Reporter, don't just make one up.

21. Lotta fruit salad on that guy, and tiny eyes.
But really, "Bantz"? Anyway, thanks for the confirmation. I was sure the reporter had just made it up.

2. Is there anyone in this "administration" not guided by little voices?
Edited on Thu Oct-19-06 07:42 PM by hatrack
I'd really like to know that at least one senior official is maybe, possibly making decisions based on law, or need, or science, rather than TELETYPES FROM GOD-MAN!!

11. EGAD!
How sad that 1) I'm surprised at the thought, and 2) what you just said makes perfect sense. If rehab can keep Foley out of jail, certainly insanity can keep Rummy, et al, out as well.

Sickening.

3. Pete Pace is a desk driving little wussie, ask any flag or general
officer. That guy has short-toured, hopped and skipped, and has done more time in an air conditioned office than he ever has slogging through the mud or elements.

He's a dilettante, a suckup, a fawn. He should submit his resignation with Rumsfeld, because HE is the asshole who is supposed to do course corrections on both SECDEF and the Prez. And he's FAILED to do it. A go along, get along little SHIT. The USMC must be humiliated--their first chance to see a USMC CJCS, and it's THAT putz?????

Fuck him.

9. While it has become abundantly apparent ...
... that this administration, and the GOP at large, have a habit of passing the buck and blaming someone else for everything that has gone wrong, I really thought that EVEN THEY would draw the line at blaming "the Good lord".

"He leads in a way that the good Lord tells him is best for our country."

So now we know - the mess in Iraq isn't due to Rumsfeld's torture-as-we-go policy, or Bush's stay-the-course (while you're getting your ass kicked) method.

No, it's all GOD's fault ... should have seen THAT ONE coming.

They have hit ROCK BOTTOM with their rhetoric.

14. No, I don't doubt what was said in #10 ...
... and I also do not doubt that the 'scary' side of things is on THEIR side of the aisle these days, not ours.

GOD is a Democrat.

16. Why do people who hear voices always assume it's from God?
1 John 4

1Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
