Hey Chickenshits at HeyJohn.org Come Forward and Tell Us Who You Are!!!
I don't know about other's here but I am mad as hell about this crock of BS website by "grassroots" Dems. HeyJohn.org needs to come clean and tell us who they are because John Kerry has been ...

Fighting Longer and Harder Than the Rest and It’s Still Not Enough?
October 19th, 2006 @ 6:18 pm

Hotline on Call reports today that there’s an attempt in the blogosphere and with in the Democratic party to get certain Senators to pony up from their war chests for the mid-term elections and the bulk of the cries to pony up are directed towards John Kerry. AP News also has a piece along the same lines. Now let me be clear, working to get other’s to pony up out of their war chests is fine, but it’s interesting that this “grassroots” effort comes by way of an anonymous website that was registered through Domains by Proxy and has the owner’s information blocked and it’s sad that the claims on the website are misleading at best.

The truth is no one has done more for Democratic candidates in this election cycle than John Kerry, but evidently it’s still not enough as far as some are concerned. I find this curious because John Kerry was not sitting around dawdling months ago when success for Democrats appeared more like a fantasy than something attainable. No — he was out there working hard to raise money for Democratic candidates long before anyone else got the notion to get involved. He did not wait until this late stage in the campaign to pitch in and help like others have, because Kerry understands that “early money” counts the most and it is usually hardest to raise. Kerry’s team applied that rule of early support of Senate candidates on the top targeted Senate races.

Off the bat, in 2004, John Kerry gave 1 million dollars to the DSCC at the beginning of this election cycle when the DSCC’s coffers needed a boost to show a positive balance at year-end — he wiped their debt clean.

Since 2004 the bottom line all combined: the Friends of John Kerry, Keeping America’s Promise PAC and JohnKerry.com grassroots contributors have provided $3,540,553 in direct contributions, directed donations and online contributions to the DSCC and 22 Senate incumbents and candidates. Here’s a breakdown (via Kerry’s PAC) of what Kerry has done for Senate candidates:

{snip}

Again, the bottom line here is this - no one and I do mean no one has done more the party this year, in the past 2 years actually, than John Kerry. So let me quote John Kerry here from yesterday, when he pitched for people to donate to The Patriot Project, another worthy cause within our ranks, the call for Kerry to do more from HeyJohn.org is simply a “chickenshit attack” in my opinion from members of the grassroots who don’t have the courage to put their names behind their claims.

It’s times like this when I sit back and shake my head bewildered by the lack of support for the for the one leader in the Democratic party that has fought harder on all the issues that count. He’s not stopped since November 2004. No in fact where others might have drifted off by the wayside, John Kerry went back to work right after the election and he’s a better man, a better fighter and we all owe him our gratitude for leading the fight against Alito, for leading the fight to save the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, for leading the calls to bring our troops home from Iraq… the list goes on.

Let me make it clear, I’ve watched and noted here on The Democratic Daily everything that John Kerry has done in the past 15 months. You won’t find a more complete archive of John Kerry news anywhere on the blogosphere. Why have I done this? Because I believe in John Kerry. I believe in what he stands for. I believe in what’s he’s done for Democrats in the past and I believe that our future and the future of this country is tantamount on the work he continues to do every damn day of the year.

So let the chickenshits at HeyJohn.org come forward and tell us all who they are — because “No one has done more than John Kerry to support Democratic candidates”:

1. This will probably be locked as a continuation of a locked thread, but
That's strong evidence you provide and furthermore, anybody who would go to such lengths to conceal their identity while making such a misdirected attack obviously has something to hide. This is either more swiftboat crap or a misguided attempt by someone thinking this will help their preferred '08 candidate. If the second is true, I'm sure the candidate in question would stop these shenanigans if he or she knew about them.

You'll notice every time one of these smear pieces comes out it's always anonymous cowards... "top Dem officials" or "Democratic advisors" or some other nameless entity. What do they have to hide?

Secret energy meetings, secret intelligence "programs", secret briefings....

We hate that in Republicans, why should we tolerate it in Democratic party politics?

I smell a rat.

37. It was put up within days of Kerry's Republicans are LYING speech,
which generated some buzz.

It also followed the same mo that swifts took with their 2003 wintersoldier site that purported to be from the left.

So, it's easy to believe that this was started by them again. Or someone who is using their methods to distract from their own identity.

10. I am not a Kerry fan and I think this is a shitty, gutless attack.
I most want the 45 unopposed House Dems to toss their $26 million into the ring. EVERY LAST CENT.

Then I want the Senators sitting on big accounts - Hillary? John? - to EMPTY THEIR POCKETS.

Seriously. If the Dems win and start to do good the people will replenish the accounts the leaders need to throw their hats in the Presidential ring - especially if we could VERY quickly pass clean election legislation that would get candidates equal amounts of free TV and radio time. We own the airwaves and we can demand that the media provide this as a requirement of their FCC license...

$20 million from unopposed House candidates and $20 from the Senators - and that would give us a real chance at overcoming all of the odds that are still facing us...

14. That really is amazing. Do you know if there are any laws that would
limit the House Dems or Senators from donating huge sums to individual candidates, the DNC, the DSCC, or the DCCC? Do they have the same donation limits as the rest of us - 5,000?

And I still think that all Dems need to empty their pockets. Sorry, but I am feeling as if this IS our last shot at slamming on the brakes. The only reason I could imagine would justify their holding onto the $$$ would be if they are keeping funds for recounts - defending the Dem wins...

24. Yes he has - the numbers speak for themselves
Here's just a snippet:

John Kerry has given or raised over 10 million dollars for Democratic candidates and committees since November 2004. Give me a holler if you can show me another Democrat who can match those $$$. To my knowledge Kerry has completely outpaced the pack. John Kerry has been aggressively fundraising for Democratic candidates throughout all of 2006. Really?? That’s right, Kerry has been:

Making direct contributions to various campaigns.
Attending and hosting events 24 states across the country including IA, NH, CA, WA, PA, MD, FL… the list goes on.
Emailing his 3 million strong list of supporters from JohnKerry.com on behalf of candidates and raising money for state parties, the DNC, DSCC and DCCC.
Need more information on what John Kerry has been doing to help Democrats raise money for the critical mid-terms? Here’s more information (via Kerry’s PAC):

Kerry has raised over 215K individual direct and online contributions that have come through JohnKerry.com. He’s raised over $13.5 million through his leadership committees since November 2004 and of that $13.5 million, John Kerry has given away over $10 million to Democratic candidates and committees across the country.

All told, Kerry has financially supported 179 candidates for House, Senate and state and local offices and committees in 42 states. Kerry has personally traveled to 24 states to appear with candidates and rally support at the grassroots. Kerry has made over 85 trips across the country to support Democratic candidates this cycle.

Kerry gave $1 million to the Democratic National Committee and raised an additional $250,000 for the DNC online. He’s given $500,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee; contributed $50,000 to the Louisiana State Party and he gave $250,000 to the Washington State Democratic Party which helped finance a recount when the Republican party challenged the win of Gov. Christine Gregoire.

Through the JohnKerry.com community, Kerry has raised over 100K each for 11 candidates: Maria Cantwell, Bill Nelson, Byrd, Sherrod Brown, Ford, Claire McCaskill, Klobuchar, James Webb, Tammy Duckworth, Patrick Murphy and Joe Sestak.

16. Well, if someone really wanted the big $ holders to fork it over,
they'd engage in some diplomacy and get Clinton, Kerry, Bayh, and others to agree to a baseline they'd each keep, then the rest of the funds could be funneled to DSCC, and it would be fair.

But backstabbing attacks like someone is doing here - and obviously leaving the person with the biggest warchest out of it - is just divisive and serves anyone but the Democratic Party.

31. K&R, your OP almost sounded like an invitation for my old story...
While based on a true story, the names have been changed to protect the guilty. Please don't assume it is written in a juvenile format to imply that it is childish to lash out at someone just because some birds must blame others for problems they let happen by not working hard enough.

Once upon a time in the land of Chicken-Hawk Haven an eagle was born. Not long after he learned to fly, a war with some well-trained falcons broke out on the other side of the planet.

Falcons are seasoned fighting birds born into a war that constantly rages in their land but this is not a falcon story. Instead, this is a tale of the species Chicken-Hawkia, which only slightly resembles the birds of a feather cliché. Gold feathers adorn not just the wings but also the nests of one class of hawk, while the others have mostly tan or brown feathers. Of course the golden feathered Chicken-Hawks willingly welcome fine feathered eagle families into their nesting tree because hanging with eagles is sophisticated and stylish for the smaller raptors.

The bird wars seem unfair in retrospect because gold-feathered hawks started the trouble and then ordered the brown hawks to try and win the battles, often with dire consequences. In fact, high-class hawks, like eagles, did not have to fight at all and believe me MANY upscale Chicken-Hawks made that very choice.

Strangely, however, the Eagle DID decide protecting other birds was important enough to risk his life and proved to be a valiant, victorious fighter, until one day when his heart cried out war is wrong.

Slightly forlorn, the Eagle flew home only to be greeted by chicken-like cackles and crowish caws that he had not yet done enough to serve Birdom. Undaunted, the Eagle actually agreed and promptly picked up a sign to protest war and save hawk lives. Still, those haunting cackles raised his hackles by screeching not enough Eagle! NOT ENOUGH YET!

So the Eagle decided to serve Birdom again and lead his local flock in a way that was more fair than they actually deserved. He served many years in Birdington DC before once again nay saying cackles raised his hackles. NOT ENOUGH, NOT ENOUGH, they chirped.

You see, some 24K nut-case cackler had somehow snatched control of Birdom and he was quite tyrannical, considering 24K was one of the most cowardly Chicken-Hawks ever. Reluctantly, the Eagle stepped forward to run against the better financed bird in Hawk-idential elections. The Eagle would have gotten that top job handed to him years ago, like Chimp-Hawk, had he simply taken all those golden feathers powerful Chicken-Hawks offered him. Ole' 24K even owned most of the bird-media, including the New York, Fly-by-nightTimes.

With not only media against him but also a lot of public opinion, Eagle ended up using many personal feathers in the race. Considering 24K was an incumbent Chicken-Hawk dealing from his own stacked deck, so to speak, the Eagle flew pretty well. Still, the cheeping of Hawks split the night air with, "NOT ENOUGH, NOT ENOUGH EAGLE."

After an all night feather count in a very close race, tensions at the Eagles Nest ran high. Then, the outcome was revealed. From his frustration, Eagle screamed for a recount of the almost won contest. Eagle was not used to losing because he was a winner. His call was heard throughout Birdom but down at Bird-beach where 24K's bird-brained brother ruled, the count was already cast in stone. Still, Eagle watched patiently from his perch until all manner of breaches in birdism broke out. Then, Eagle flew home because he was very tired and sick that the very Birdom many of his comrades-at-wing had died to protect was now reduced to a vulture's buffet.

As Eagle flew away to a much deserved rest, he could still hear the cackles say, "NOT ENOUGH, NOT ENOUGH EAGLE" but will it ever be enough for every bird in the forest? While the Chimp-bird shows you can fool all of the birds some of the time and some birds all of the time, all Eagle proves is that some birds will screech, NOT ENOUGH anytime, no matter how much you give.

38. I'll make this short and sweet....
I am not a fan of John Kerry's. I haven't been for a while now. I've made no secret about it, and have at times, locked horns with the Kerry camp about it.

No, I don't appreciate that he remains a member of the DLC. Yes, I am still smarting from the defeat his campaign handed us in '04 (and yes, I still feel he was responsible in one of the major ways for that defeat.) Yes, I was really upset that he held onto $$$ after the end of the election, especially when it was collected for the legal fight he planned to mount if the election was in question, and then conceded. ALL THOSE THINGS JUST PISSED ME OFF ABOUT KERRY. That's true.

But, I am convinced he has given a lot of money to Democratic candidates since then. A LOT. I am convinced he has seen the light on the Iraq War and spoken out. I wish he's say more about Election fraud, but feel he's getting there. He has done A LOT for Democratic Candidates this election year. For these reasons alone, I would defend him against the likes of "HeyJohn.org". Add to those things though, that whether you like Kerry or not, he is a veteran of a war many of his generation were against, and spoke out against that war upon his return from duty. He was decorated, and no natter what he did with those medals, he won them... they were his, and he had the right to do whatever he felt was right with them. THEY WERE HIS. HE WAS AWARDED THEM. Say you don't like because he was weak during the last campaign. Say you don't like him for his political affiliations within his Party. Say you don't like him because heh's too Liberal, or not Liberal enough. Say you think he needs to give more, do more... whatever. But, Swiftboat him, and that's where you lose me.

I say, whomever is behind "HeyJohn.org" should have the guts to come forward and declare themselves. This just smacks of the kind of hit-and-run politics that the other side uses to Swiftboat our side and the Candidates we run. We should be better than that. I may not see Kerry as this Party's savior as some here do, but he is FAR from the worst Democrat in this Party.

Until there is a HeyJoe.org, a HeyZell.org, a HeyDLC.org (for that matter), this site is way off-base, and the owners need to declare themselves now. And, I agree with KerryGoddess that they are "Chickensh*t" until they do.

On the other hand, those who feel strongly enough to agree with that site, and have the guts to say so here, OUT LOUD, deserve our respect for at least having the guts to do that. Agree with them or not, at least they are not hiding behind some anonymous website, and are stating THEIR OWN BELIEFS here for all to see. On some level, even the most strident of the Kerry supports should be able to recognize that.

We have lost so many rights here in America under the Bush regime, we need to be able to afford each other the FREEDOM OF SPEECH we still have under the First Amendment while we still have it. No doubt it'll be gone soon, and then we won't be able to say HOW WE FEEL about anyone or anything without some sort of penalty. ALl I ask is HAVE THE GUTS TO SAY WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY UNDER YOUR OWN NAME AND ON YOUR OWN DIME. And, fight fair with those who have to the guts to do that, here or elsewhere.

Go after the "Democrats" who REALLY aren't "Democrats", and for gawdsake, leave the Swiftboating to the other side! We are better than that!

TC

Leave the Swiftboating to the other side is right. We're all on the same team and need to work together. Tearing someone down isn't helpful.

44. A couple of points...
You won't see a HeyJoe.org or a HeyZell.org because they aren't doing anything to help Democrats. These two aren't a threat to anybody (except to themselves). One thing I've noticed about Rovian/Swiftboating strategy is that they take someone's strength and turn it against them effectively killing two birds with one stone. A recent example that comes to mind is how they have been comparing dissenters/Democrats to Nazis when we all know which side is more accurately defined as Nazi. They took that one right from us because we had been comparing their side to a fascist regime for quite a while.

The other point is that, while everyone has a right to express OPINIONS, this is not a site for Republican talking points. And when one of our Democrats (whether this be Kerry, Clark, Gore, Edwards, Warner, Feingold, Boxer, etc.) is under attack by an anonymous campaign that smacks of swiftboating, those siding with the liars are in essence attacking all Democrats. If anyone wants to jump in and side with this organization, I'm afraid my opinion is that they should be posting on the Free Republic.

45. I agree with you. Essentially, I really do.
I just think that there is already so much supression of opinions and ideas in America, it hurts when I see a long-time poster, whether or not I agree with what he or she is saying, shouted down for having what is essentially an unpopular opinion.

We need to be a group that discusses these things more than we do, and fight about them less. If you have a problem with what another poster is opining, there is a way to resolve it without tearing that person apart. That's all I'm saying. I realize your anger and frustration at this situation, but discussion -- not recrimination -- is the way to settle this. We need all our own onboard, and energized this close to a very important election. There is no time left for the war of personality. Talk to each other, and work it out. The Democrats have GOT to win this next two rounds of elections if this country is to survive. That's something we have to remember as we talk our differences out.

46. I agree with you about discussion among ourselves.
Since I'm not sure who the long-time poster you refer to is, I can't comment on that specific situation. There are infiltrators who come here specifically to incite us with their propaganda. You probably heard about that Republican staffer for Congressman Charlie Bass who was just arrested for posting as a Democrat on a Democrat blog while at work in the Congressman's office. His goal was to undermine the candidacy of Bass's Democrat opponent, Paul Hodes. This is the kind of crap they are good at.

I absolutely HATE covert operatives and when anything smacks of that kind of deception, my buttons are pushed but I usually avoid getting into flame wars and prefer to post positive posts. Usually. As we have recently seen, we've had some Republicans in Dem clothing posting here. One had an account that predated the 2004 election, which shocked me when he "came out" as a Repug.

We do need to discuss honestly, but we need to be fair and show some manners. I'll never jump into a pro-Clark, pro-Dean, pro-anyDem thread just to change the subject to everything they have done wrong and how I won't vote for them in 2008, especially when the discussion topic is about something else like the War in Iraq. People like that deserve what they get, long-timer posters or no. Opinions go both way. However, I have seen heated flame wars and generally I try to avoid that. Sometimes it does generate a good dialog, but most times it is non-productive.

48. OMG. I can't believe Democrats could be behind this.
I hope everyone stays on top of this. It's not right to Swiftbaoat one of our own this way, or to allow a faction of our Party, or whoever this is to get away with it.

Deep down, I still think there's a Republican behind it somewhere, somehow.

49. I have my guesses as to who is behind it
I simply thought about who would benefit the most if Kerry gave away his entire cash on hand. Who benefits from Kerry not having ANY cash for 2008... who, indeed. Perhaps the same person who has bigger coffers than Kerry, yet is NOT being called upon to give anything to the DSCC.

Curiouser and curiouser...

54. Probably the best thing to do is ignore this.
It will have absolutely no effect on 2008 unless Kerry actually is forced to give up the dough, and the only way that will happen is if this two cycle story gets strung along and the only way that's going to happen is with continued controversy, and the only way that's going to happen is if Kerry supporters keep making a big deal out of new twist on a fairly standard and not too damaging political stunt.

I donated a lot at the end of the election for ads and Kerry didnt use it. I wish he did. Now give it to the people who need it in November and dont save it for 2008.

various races, and also to the Party's general fund. Depending on how it's counted, the figure is around 15 Million.

That's more than I ordinarily carry around with me on a given afternoon.

In fact, it sounds downright generous to me.

"Give me give five John Kerry's," said a Democratic party heavyweight recently. "He puts his money where his mouth is."

59. I have to say, I looked into this before I posted in this thread yesterday
and you are exactly correct in that amount. I think his being targeted this way when others are not (Bayh, Clinton, and many more have HUGE war-chests, and could spare far more than they give.) Even as someone not known for being a Kerry fan, I have to say it sucks that he is being singled-out this way.

I am not sympathetic to this site or what they are doing, and that's the truth.

60. Hi to you, Totally Committed. Thank you for your post, but
a bigger thanks for the big picture you offer.

In the framework you have going, it looks as if Democrats at many levels are raising more money from more different kinds of donors than in any election to date.

Which is good, because the Republicans always seem to have plenty of cash on hand. It's been a huge disadvantage to us for a long, long time.

I know of a handful of local races in Indiana and Florida where money has been given by a lot of Democrats, and given in good faith. Kerry's one donor, but there've been others, including many Democrats from statewide groups. I know of one Drinking Liberally group that has raised some serious cash for local Dems.

And I love it. I think the Republicans used Iraq to bully us, used same-sex marriage to bully us, and of course, had the bucks to back up the bullying.

None of those things is working quite as well as they used to for the Republicans this fall, and I like what I think is about to happen to the House of Representatives!

Go blue!

61. Exactly... Kerry is ONE DONOR....
Why go after just him?

And, yes... it is satisfying for me to see the Republicans not getting the "bang for their buck" they thought they would! (Maybe because they were all too busy looking for "bang" elsewhere... but I digress. ;) )

I'm not sure what will happen with this election. I just can't allow myself to hope too much, because after 2004, my heart can't take another disappointment of that magnitude. It just can't. But, I agree with you -- GO BLUE!

I love your sig line also -- about being founded by liberals.

The Republicans have made that word a perjorative over the last several years.

In 18 days we're going to make "Republicans" the perjorative.

64. Hey there, Catchawave. I know you and others have been way more
than dutiful trying to unseat Cement-Head Allen, and you've got a great candidate there with Webb, and he stands a real good chance on a lot of counts.

It would be fantastic to hear, early on Nov. 7th, that Webb has bested Allen. O my god would that be a sweet, sweet thing to hear.

And you are helping to make it happen.

I think Kerry-Edwards won in Ohio in 2004, and no amount of head-up-their-asses Republican officials in Warren County can persuade me otherwise.

What a superior government that would have been than the one we have now.

Good to see ya.

66. What a nice thing to say. Thank you. I did like that post --
the rallies matter very much -- there's an electrical charge that can race through an audience -- and a candidate's words can lift them, and the lift can last and last.

I've seen Edwards do that, and my guess is he isn't done doing that.

Let there be tons and tons of Democrats in the Congress!
