I hope lots of folks in CT--and here at DU--see it. I love how, even though it's a very convincing attack on Johnson's record, it makes you smile.

6. Murphy's ads are really great! Ole Nance is mad as hell |
|
but she has embarrassed herself publicly, saying Murphy's ads aren't factual when indeed they prove to be factual. I think he's going to beat her. She's not my congressperson, Rosa DeLauro is, but Nancy is looking same-old, same-old. An ad supporting Chris featuring lobbyists wining and dining ("Whatever they're talking about, it probably isn't you")is brilliant.

7. I wonder if Murphy's ad team can collaborate with Lamont's? |

I wish Lamont's had this tone.

8. Lately in my calling for Ned, I am hearing some people say they |
|
are tired of seeing Ned's ads. They started out funny and a little quirky. Now they seem a little forced. Of course, the problem is that we've been at it for months, first with the primary campaign and now the general. Most people have made up their minds on this race, altho I am hopeful that the last 2 debates have stirred an interest in Schlesinger among Republicans, steering them away from Joe. That is my slender reed of hope here!

9. Agreed, Ned's ads have not been effective. |
|
He's airing a new one with Chris Dodd today. It's up on his site. It's okay...but it isn't up to the quality of Chris's. And it's a shame, because Lamont has a lot to work with, both in terms of Lieberman's terrible record and his own strengths.
I'm feeling pretty punched in the gut right now, because I just saw the new Q-poll: Lamont down by 17. Taken after the first debate.

11. OMG! I hadn't seen the poll! I was hoping his numbers would go up! |
|
I'm canvassing for Ned tomorrow in East Haven, not exactly a Ned neighborhood. If they're not going to be for Ned, I'm hoping people will tell me they're voting for Al.
If it is any consolation to you, this was an uphill battle from the start. Nobody said it would be easy. Ned has wakened many slumbering Democrats and put together a great organization against one of the best known Dems in the party. The first voice in the wilderness doesn't always succeed initially. He paves the way for others to come forward. That's the only way to look at it, IMHO.

12. How has your canvassing been going? |

I've managed to sway a few people who flat out told me they're voting Lieberman. When they do, I ask, "why?" (Often it's something I can debunk, like some sort of smear, and other times I grant them their point.) I spend a lot of time listening before I ask if they mind my explaining why I'm supporting Ned. I can just about always frame it differently for them, or tell them something they didn't know about Lieberman.
Edit to add: I didn't address your main point. Sorry. I guess right now it hurts too much to be thinking about "next time." And even though we're so close to out of time, I'm still finding a lot of undecided voters. I'll admit, I'm wondering if I should shift my focus to Courtney/Simmons, though.

13. Do you think Courtney might win? I get the feeling that Rob is |
|
gonna win because of the sub base thing. BUt I hope I'm wrong!
In my phoning I have been somewhat successful in persuading people who are leaning Ned but not totally sure. They respond well when I say that if we send Joe back nothing will change, the war will drag on and the deficit will just get bigger. Joe hasn't done a thing about universal health care either and that is a national crisis.
The pro-Joe's I encounter are either defensive (they add they're against the war!) or hostile and smug. I kill them with kindness always and hang up.
When I get a pro-Ned voter I find them VERY enthusiastic and determined.
My calling is basically to seniors, since I call weekdays in the afternoon. So I get lots of folks who refuse to let me know who they are voting for. I don't mind them, tho. I use it as an opportunity to pitch Ned.
Wish me luck in East Haven. I'll post about it, but I have the feeling my pitch will fall on deaf ears.

15. It seems very close with Courtney and Simmons. |
|
The polls say so, too. When I talk to people, I acknowledge whatever good things they say about Simmons. I let them have their say. Then I talk about the importance of a Dem majority in the House, how the country is looking to CT to help deliver that majority so we can have a check on Bush's power.
People here care a lot about the environment, too. They think of Simmons as being stronger on the environment than most Republicans. Then I talk about the Energy bill.
And when they say that Courtney seems unsinspiring, or they don't have a sense of who he is, I say, "I know, I know. I used to feel that way, too. Then I met him..." For some reason, that usually clinches it.
Seniors, huh. I bet they're a tough crowd. Very used to voting for Joe. Not so up-to-date on what he's been up to lately.

18. hard to say. Some seniors are great and are really pro Ned. |
|
Others say they haven't made up their minds and there seem to be more of them than Joe supporters. Most of themsay they won't reveal the information. I tell them I understand and I just hope they will really take a look at Ned Lamont. So I sneak in a little pitch with them. My little sample taken once a week isn't in any way scientific, only anecdotal, so you can't make too many conclusions from it.
It's good to hear you are making headway for Courtney. Hope I'm wrong, but I just have a gut feeling that Simmons will pull this out. Again, nothing scientific...and I certainly haven't been talking to voters in your district the way you have. Good luck!

19. Make sure everyone you talk to knows he's talking war with Iran. |
|
He said "regime change in Iran" in the debate. In an interview with Jersusalem Times, he said airstrikes and ground troops.
A lot of people who forgive him for Iraq won't stand for another war.

14. No, just a little disappointed. I had hoped for a big sweep since |
|
I thought more people's eyes would be opened.
But I'm not giving up. I'll keep calling and doing whatever they want me to up until I leave for Europe on Nov. 6th (I voted absentee at City Hall last week). I'll be on the Internet while I'm in Rome on Nov. 8 to find out what happened. Hoping for the best.

It raises an issue delivers a simple message.
Were I in that district Connecticut, I'd vote for Murphy and begin tracking him to see if he follows up.
