My letter to a RW talk show host
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 09:16 AM by Mortos
On his NRA paid for radio program and website, Cam Edwards has used his right wing talk show persona to bash all things Democratic and tout the right wing conservative mantras for the previous elections in 2000, 2002 and 2004. A review of his website www.camedwards.com reveals that the election of 2006, perhaps the most important election for conservatives and progressives alike has warranted nary a peep from the right wing spokesman.

Cam has used his position on the radio, originally in Oklahoma City on KTOK 1000 AM, and later on his national satellite program sponsored by the NRA and his website to act as another voice in the echo chamber of the right wing propaganda machine. He has gleefully bashed Clinton, Dean, Kerry, Sheehan and any other prominent Democratic leader or opposition voice in the past devoting hours of air time and megabytes of web pages to help the right wing cause.

In the last few months, his web pages have remained strangely free of politics except for the required quid pro quo payments to the NRA, his sponsor and employer. In the last 20 posts on his site, he has devoted only one to national politics and then only a cursory post completely ignoring the raging self destruction of the GOP and the possibility of a massive loss of seats in the upcoming election.

I have met Cam and was on his Oklahoma City show once to debate the charge that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction as boasted by President Bush during his 2003 State of the Union address. My arguments, turned out to be completely true, his, not so much.

Cam and I have gone toe to toe on many occasions since, until I withdrew myself from the addiction of right wing website debates (partially because conservatives refuse to admit when they are wrong, partly because of death threats to my family and mostly because it wasted so much damn time) but I still lurk and read what's going on every now and then. I noticed that Cam has completely ignored the 2006 election and all of the scandals embroiling the GOP. He hasn't done his traditional right wing duty of parroting Turd Blossom's counter-lies and moral equivalency as is done by the entire staff of Foxnews, lead by the CHIC (chicken hawk in chief) Sean Hannity.

Anyway, I finally posted a comment on Cam's website and the text follows. I wonder if some of the right wing has given up or there are a few people left with a conscience who have slowly realized what a mess George Bush and his minions have wrought on our country.

Here is my post:

Cam,

I find it interesting that you have, by and large, ignored this election which many have called the most important in our history. Is it the republican culture of corruption or the endless drip of new revelations of misconduct, cronyism and cover up? Or are you just tired of defending the indefensible?

You spent the majority of your time and blogging efforts the last two elections slamming democratic candidates and singing the praises of the right wing. You are now eerily silent.

Looking over your recent posts section, there are only two iffy political posts (non gun related) and one on the election in the last 20.

Could it be that you have become aware of the horrible situation Bush and his administration have put this country in over the last six years?

The war in Iraq is a fiasco. Civil war has begun between the Sunnis and the Shiites (Yeah, I was there for 10 months, before anyone asks and the Iraqis I spoke to, and there were many, are completely disillusioned with America and live in fear every day of the next bomb or kidnapping. Estimates of Iraqi civilian causalities range from 30,000 (U.S. estimate based on no legitimate effort other than guessing) up to 655,000 based on interviews and surveys conducted by Iraqi doctors in Iraq.

Our troops are being killed at the rate of 4 per day this month (I know that is just a number according to Tony Snow) and more than that are being wounded every day.

James Baker has called the situation a “helluva mess” and the military has resorted to stop loss and extended tours of duty breaking it’s own promises to the troops. Morale is low and getting lower every day they are kept there against their will.

You rail against the loss of 2nd Amendment rights on this site but completely ignore the passing of the Military Commissions Act which gives the President unprecedented power to arrest, detain and torture any one he chooses or designates as “an unlawful enemy combatant”, eviscerating over 200 years of U.S. law and completely destroying habeas corpus rights.

This President has set himself up with fascist powers and the American people yawn, but they are slowly waking up.

Even though polls show a huge backlash against this administration (38% support for Bush) and the Republican lead Congress (12%), I am not confident that the elections will represent the will of the people. Paperless computerized polling machines have been shown to be easily hacked and opened with a paper clip. Anomalies in Ohio and other states in 2004 have not been addressed and we are facing the same problems again compounded by secret election roll scrubs by Republican officials.

If the House is returned to Democratic control, we might be able to right the wrongs committed by Bush and his PNAC filled administration in a decade or so. If, contrary to all evidence and history, the Republicans manage to retain control of both Houses, we will continue our slide into corruption and corporate ownership of our government. Fascism will become the law of the land and our precious rights (including the 2nd Amendment0, may be stripped away forever.

I hope your lack of blogging has less to do with you being busy and more to do with your guilty conscience in supporting this dastardly regime with the power of your personality and right wing credibility.

Your silence is coming through loud and clear whether you know it or not.

If this is the case, it would be better for America if you used that same charisma and credibility with the conservative crowd to criticize and condemn the actions and failed policies of this government as some of your conservative contemporaries have; including Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchannon.

It is never too late to repent or admit you made a mistake and I think you have done that by ignoring this election.

It is a small but important step but I would rather see you break out into a run from a President and policies you must know in your heart are hurtful to the country we love.

I’m just saying.
