John McCain the straight talker
“On the issue of gay marriage, I do believe, and I think it's a correct policy that the sanctity of heterosexual marriage, a marriage between man and woman, should have a unique status. But I‘m not for depriving any other group of Americans from having rights. But I do believe that there is something that is unique between marriage between a man and a woman, and I believe it should be protected.”

“I think that gay marriage should be allowed, if there‘s a ceremony kind of thing, if you want to call it that. I don‘t have any problem with that, but I do believe in preserving the sanctity of a union between man and woman.”

"On the issue of the gay marriage, I believe that people want to have private ceremonies, that‘s fine. I do not believe that gay marriages should be legal."
John McCain on MSNBC's "Hardball", October 18, 2006.

That's America's idea of a "straight talker." :puke:

2. what is McCain's opinion on the sanctity of his first marriage ?
McCain also said that if his daughter wanted to get an abortion he would support her. but he wants to make it a crime for other women. he has money to take his daughter to another country where it's legal and get a safe one for her.

8. I actually didn't think much of it until after I posted it.
But yes, on this particular ocassion he was a "straight talker." Who knows whether he'll still be one in his next interview.

7. McCain is a man of principles
And if you don't like the ones he's espousing on Hardball, well, he has a whole new set for going on Face the Nation. Or Meet the Press. Or Bob Jones University. Catch him in the right venue, and he's sure to say something you'll like.
