Seriously though, WHY does this continue to be news???
Bush: I won't change strategy in Iraq
By DEB RIECHMANN and KEVIN FREKING, Associated Press Writers

WASHINGTON - President Bush conceded Friday that "right now it's tough" for American forces in Iraq, but the White House said he would not change U.S. strategy in the face of pre-election polls that show voters are upset.

With Republicans anxious about the potential loss of Congress — and with conditions seemingly deteriorating in Iraq — Bush addressed the question of whether he would alter his policies.

"We are constantly adjusting our tactics so that we achieve the objective, and right now it's tough, it's tough," Bush said in an Associated Press interview.

I mean, not for nothing, but doesn't this amount to "Generalisimo Francisco Franco is still dead"?

1. Because stupid people at the WaPo wrote changes were 'expected'
and they ought not be expected. They ought to be mocked - Bush is not for changing.

So the media is essentially arguing/ discussing with itself.

2. "I'm gonna do what I had planned even before I got selected for prez,
and I don't give a flying rip what any of you think or how FUBAR things get." is his meme.

3. Please state the objective, Mr. Bush.
We are constantly adjusting our tactics so that we achieve the objective

Sounds like he's talking more about the neo-cons than Iraq. What the h*ll is the 'objective'?....and PUHLEEZE, Mr. pResident, don't say "democracy" or "the killin' em over there, so that we don't have to kill em over here" thang again, okay?

----------

To answer the OP's question, I think it's "news" because it's reinforcing THE FACT that the Shrub is an "inflexible old mule"/"one trick pony"/"unimaginative, order-taking 'TOOL'/has only EVER served his own interests, not anyone else's, and certainly not "the people" of this once great nation....

4. He imagines himself as a great war President
and thinks one day he will be on Mt. Rushmore, his legacy will be, he didn't cave to the outward or inward pressure, stood his ground, and won a glorious victory for the U.S. and democracy. How can he do that if he changes as the situation dictates, or uses any amount of management skill, skills the manager of a McDonalds would have. He would be seen as adaptable, and fluid, willing to allow other peoples thoughts and opinions help him achieve clearly defined objectives, lord knows he wouldn't want that to be his legacy. If he were to ever make it to Rushmore, his figure would look like this :freak: which I'm going to start using instead of his name.

6. The funny thing is, has there EV ER been a "great war president"?
I mean, take Lincoln and FDR. Did their respective greatness derive SOLELY from the wars they had to preside over? Or did their already demonstrable leadership skills (something, WE ALL KNOW that CurrentGuy lacks to a laughable degree) render battle just another hurdle to steer the nation through?

Well, Tim, I'm a war president... TSK! GIMME A @#$%# BREAK!

7. Yes, this is why I laugh and get angry at the same time when...
watching him. I laugh because he looks so stupid and he hesitates and stares into the crowd as though he is teaching them something about war, when some in the audience probably knows more than he does about the subject.

Yesterday, I saw him on something discussing about lately he has been reading some books on history. He talks as if he has been in some great battle. I get angry because I try to figure out why these people are following him and not questioning his decisions when, the country knows he is not the one for the job. These people get me worrying about their Legacy, its about us not them. The legacy isn't going to mean anything because they will be dead...

5. Because it makes people in the US
more angry at the maladministration, and more inclined to vote Dems, since they already know the Republicon Congress won't do anything to get us out of Iraq?

I say, banner headlines, day-in and day-out, to make sure everyone has no doubt what a pigheaded idiot "the decider" is. It can only help...
