Do the candidates have Secret Service Details yet?
Those hecklers on Clark, particularly the one that got all the way to the podium, made me really think about all of their safety.

1. I am pretty sure the answer is no.
I don't think the nominee even gets that. It starts at the president-elect level.

11. Major candidates began getting SS protection
after Robert Kennedy was killed. Prior to that it wasn't given until there was a president-elect.

2. Yes, I am concerned, too.
A couple weeks ago there were a few LaRouchies that acted threateningly at a Dean event, and even broke Al Franken's glasses, when he had to assist Dean's security guards in moving them out.

7. I think the candidate does get SS protection
after he is nominated, but not during the primaries.

10. No - the major candidates get protection after the first few primaries
The eventual nominee gets stepped-up protection, including coverage of their families.

12. I am scared for them sometimes
I've seen pretty mad hecklers get close to Kerry, Dean and now Clark. I hope they have good security to keep them safe.

13. Why didn't someone drop the guy?
If I was at a rally and someone started that shit I'd be on em before security. I would never let some yahoo walk right up to the General.

15. Yeah, Clark supporters going WWF on hecklers
The media would LOVE that. I did notice that a Larouche guy stried to get behind Edwards and someone ripped up his sign and pushed him out of the way. But you would have had to pay REALLY close attention to notice it.
