THANK GOD FOR THE WASHINGTON POST...
Maybe it's just me. I take no exception to those who think my tin-foil-hat is screwed on too tight. Call me paranoid if you like but without exception, while modern media claims "Democrats" can't rally around common goals or themes, "news" keeps saying, "Democrats" say one thing or another, without giving names. It is like "Democrats" sing out from the Hill in a bellowing chorus of unity. I mean, they can't have it both ways, can they? Why is it that individual "Democrat" names are mainly offered when they do or say something wrong?

One thing that this less-than-Divine chorus did recently was "purge" Lieberman from its ranks. It appeared to me that there was a primary election BY VOTERS involved in that purgery, at some point but still "news-people" purger away, as they see fit.

I do want to give thanks to one of the few newspapers in America that still hasn't fallen into lock-step with the current administration, The Washington Post for their views on the Lieberman topic:

Who's Guilty of 'Petty Partisanship'?
By E. J. Dionne Jr.
Friday, August 11, 2006

Oh my goodness, as Don Rumsfeld might say. Support for the Iraq war hits a record low, and all the president's hit men decide that it's time to smear their opponents as defeatists who give aid and comfort to the enemy.

Of course they didn't mention the poll on Iraq released by CNN on Wednesday. As a basis for their guilt-by-association campaign, they used the fact that Democratic voters in Tuesday's Connecticut primary favored antiwar businessman Ned Lamont over Sen. Joe Lieberman....

Mourning the fact that Democrats would "purge a man like Joe Lieberman" -- that word "purge" has a nice Stalinist ring, doesn't it? -- our vice president went on to say this:

1. Well, I can thank the Washington Post for publishing E. J. Dionne.
Credit where credit due. These aren't necessarily the Post's thoughts, though they are definitely E. J. Dionne's.

2. I don't think you can credit the Washington Post for that
those are the views of E. J. Dionne, probably the best columnist employed by the Post. The editorial policies of the paper itself have always reflected almost unquestioning accceptance of the administration's line of bullshit. There's also a guy who does the Post's blog (name escapes me) who is pretty good, but otherwise its as full of whores as the NY Times and most other inside-the-beltway news sources.

6. speaking of "post" can you help me with an answer to this question:

5. need to send to "145,000 free citizens of Connecticut who voted for L...

"The thing that's partly disturbing about it is the fact that, the standpoint of our adversaries, if you will, in this conflict, and the al-Qaeda types, they clearly are betting on the proposition that ultimately they can break the will of the American people in terms of our ability to stay in the fight and complete the task."

The rejection of Lieberman made Cheney wonder if "the dominant view of the Democratic Party" is "the basic, fundamental notion that somehow we can retreat behind our oceans and not be actively engaged in this conflict and be safe here at home."

Wow! I bet the 145,000 free citizens of Connecticut who voted for Lamont will be shocked to learn that they were really sending signals of "retreat" to "al-Qaeda types."
