Jim Talent smear ad calls Claire McCaskill a "liar" and a "cheat"
In one of his campaign ads that ends with the required, “I’m Jim Talent, candidate for U.S. Senate, and I approve this message,” a surrogate says of McCaskill, “I think Claire McCaskill is a liar. … Claire McCaskill will do whatever it takes to get elected. She’ll lie and she’ll cheat.”

George Connor, a political science professor at Missouri State University in Springfield, said, “There was a definite change in the tone of Talent’s campaign.”

Asked about that in a debate last week in Kansas City, Talent replied: “I can see why my opponent would not want some of these things to be relevant. But they are, especially when you have run explicitly on that record as an auditor and a prosecutor and as someone who will lift the tone in Washington.”

McCaskill insists she won’t attack Talent’s character because she wants to change the tone of politics.

“The reason that Senator Talent has gone off on this unprecedented personal attack is that he knows that Missourians want change,” she said Wednesday night after the debate. “So the only way he thinks he can be elected is by disqualifying me instead of promoting him because he’s part of the problem.”

1. All the republicans have left is to lie, smear and play the opponent as
the liar.

They have nothing but fear other wise and America is tired of being scared.

2. You can almost smell the desperation
This is worse than the anti-Ford ad with the blond bimbo (and not near as funny).

10. Fox's commercial is very effective
I live in Illinois and don't get to vote for Claire, but I see this commercial all the time since our tv stations are all in Missouri.

6. I honestly don't think McCaskill could have responded any better.
She got Talent's rhetoric to backfire on him--and simultaneously took the high road. Bravo.

7. .
I hope that the voters reject ads like this. And maybe they see the contrast to that killer ad with Micheal J.Fox. Their choice should be clear.

13. They're getting really nasty in Ohio, too
The attack ads on Sherrod Brown by DeWine have really gotten in the gutter. Most of them aren't even accurate.

15. I applaud McCaskill for taking the high road
But will it make a positive difference? Does slime still work? A risky strategy, I hope it works, but I hope that McCaskill continues to point out where she and Mr. Talent differ on the issues, and hits those points hard. Slime has worked very well in the past for the GOP. I hope that at long last it's lost its capacity to sway the electorate.

18. Wonder if Talent's internals are telling him he's going to get his
fanny whomped.

And that Claire McCaskill will be the next U.S. Senator from the Show Me State.

Go, Claire!

leading up to a crushing defeat on Nov. 7th.

Go, Claire.
