3. He did pretty well in the debates
And has been running some decent ads. Kyl has banked on being "the other Senator" in Arizona for a long time, content to operate in McCain's mighty shadow. Now people are starting to know who he is, and not liking what they see.

4. I think they like the attention they get close to election time
All these candidates calling them, and sometimes they get a TV microphone stuck in their faces. Wherein they can demonstrate their slack-jawed obliviousness to the viewing public.

Did anybody see that J.D. Hayworth is only up by 1% in the latest poll.
AZ-05 Bennett, Petts (D) Oct 24 Hayworth (R) 47%, Mitchell (D) 46%, it was from that poll of polls on some other page
