This Ford ad seems aimed at "Kid from Deliverance"-style racists
Seriously...I'm trying to get a feel for the kind of idiot that will sit there and watch this ridiculous, gap-toothed, big-haired cartoon giggling blond "party girl" cooing "call me" like a frikkin' idiot and buy it, hook, line and sinker.

What next? Cletus jumps up after the commercial and yells "grab the kids, maw, Harold Ford's comin' for the white wimmen?" Are Americans really that stupid, in ANY part of the country?

YES, it's racist. YES, it's an insult to Ford and all of America. But the undercurrent of sheer, raw stupidity...not even remotely hidden from it's "target audience"...that's the real insult. Karl Rove doesn't really believe that a crazed, testosterone-addled Harold Ford is going to go on a "white women rampage." He just wants YOU to believe it...before you vote. Your daughter isn't safe...maybe your sister...maybe even your MOM...and your only hope is to VOTE REPUBLICAN. ONLY YOU can STOP Harold Ford. God Bless America.

Sweet JESUS.

There have been stories lately about Rove and his minions mocking the evangelicals while sucking around for their votes. Guess what, folks? It's not just the holy rollers. The scumbags in Bush's White House have contempt for everyone but themselves....especially if they own a TV.

NAACP: Republican Ad Targeting Democrat Harold Ford Jr. Is Racist...

2. They're using codes that the targets don't know are codes.
As corruption and scandals and corruption taint the GOP more visibly than they're used to, they're putting out "values" messages that they hope will trump the political/ social values issues. These messages remind racists and homophobes who'll affirm their prejudices. These target viewers probably don't see themselves as racist, but they do feel uneasy about the white woman with the black man. They may see themselves as above outright bigotry against LGBT folks, but there's something about "San Francisco values" that makes them uneasy. The "rats" ad against Gore/Lieberman had an ancestor in Nazi "rats" propaganda films. People who know they're racists, homophobic, or antisemitic probably don't need to be courted with TV ads. I hoping that this time around they get so transparent that all the illusions, past and present, are revealed to the masses as crass manipulation.\ These spots can't turn the tide for the GOP, and it'd be pretty lame if they get credited for a miraculous difference between polls and official election results.

9. Well not only that
but isn't Ford also half white? Doesn't play well either if he is. I think he's half white or perhaps he just has a light skin color. Does anybody know for sure? It doesn't matter either way but perhaps that's why they're really going for this ad because back in the days where racism was more obvious it seems to me that people really hated half and half people more than full out one color.

5. There are Americans all OVER the country who are that stupid.
Please don't limit it to my state.

There are as many racists in New York as their are in Tennessee. It's just that in New York state, there's a huge city with enough people of enlightenment to counter their votes.

10. Havent Been to Tennesee for a long time ...
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 07:20 AM by primative1
I was watching CSPAN last week and they said Ford had a lock in the western part, The GOPer had locked the eastern part, and the battle was for the center of the state.
I was stationed in Tennesee back in my navy days and once took a wrong turn someplace near Nashville and guess where I wound up?
Thats right, dukes of Hazzard country for certain.
Maybe times have changed things .... I wonder.

4. .
I think that's a fitting description for the ad.
I don't know what's more sad. That there are people with no standards who hope to energize the racists or that such a spot is even possible in the US of the 21. century.

7. Ford ought to put out an ad that says "at least they're not
teenage, male pages." (Cue the banjos.)

8. It's just a really stupid ad
They must have a low opinion of us Tennesseean voters and that'd we'd just buy whatever it is they pull out because they have an (r) after their name's. In my opinion from watching Ford he seems like too much of a classy guy to be with just any old porn girl. And plus what he does on his own time is nobody's business. He's thirty something years old. I like that he has a private life and doesn't just do work work work like some people in his age group do. I would be worried if all he did was work, work, work.
