Menendez and Kerry diss Bush and Kean on Iraq in NJ event
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 07:11 AM by karynnj
Some comments:
"My opponent relies on so much empty rhetoric when talking about Iraq, sometimes I think we're listening to George Bush," Menendez said.

Kean, a state senator from Union County, scoffed at the plan pushed by Kerry and Menendez, calling it "fringe."

Kerry said opinion in America has shifted toward the Democrats' withdrawal plan but would not make predictions whether the party can wrest control of either the U.S. Senate or House of Representatives. He did offer a zinger at Kean, whose father was a popular governor and chairman of the 9/11 Commission.

"I knew his dad, and I liked his dad, and his dad has served this country well," Kerry said. "But the last time people voted for somebody because they liked his dad, we got W."

(The paper didn't mention that it should have been at Seton Hall. It looks like they still got people out - which is amazing given that Menendez had nothing I could find about ANY appearances on his website and the Kerry site said NJ util the day before when it became "South Orange, NJ", with no way to get specific informetion.)

3. .
The one from Menendez was good, too.
I heard he did a good job of repeatedly making ties between his opponent and Bush or the mess in Iraq. That's what most Dems should do.

5. Menendez has an ad that very specifially does that

He uses Kean's comment that even now he would vote for the IWR, that he backs Bush on Iraq, and that it is wrong for the country and wrong for NJ. He has made comments like the quote in the op - and they are likely to stick. Even Republicans I know are not happy with Kean - the frat boy persona is not attractive and shows way too much.

I suspect that, like the end of the Corzine race, Menendez will do better than the polls indicate. Kean has run mainly on Menendez being corrupt - mostly by quilt by association - Menendez is from Hoboken (Hudson County). Because of this, many people may be reluctant to say they are voting for him. (Corzine won by about 12 points, the polls show he had a very small lead in the days before the election - less than 4 points while a nasty scandal was in the news.)

7. Menendez is running a strong campaign and seems to be hanging
out with the right top-level Democrats.

I'm Midwest-born, and have always been inspired by those gallant East Coast Democrats.

And Menendez and Kerry are two such.

I'm feeling good about holding this seat in New Jersey, and hope we get a clear, strong signal early on Nov. 7th with the projection by the networks for a Menendez win.

Love that Kean/Bush line by Kerry.
