Received great email from an old shipmate, a former bush supporter
"I AM NOT VOTING FOR ANY SOB WITH AN 'R'AFTER HIS NAME." "I HOPE THE DEMOCRATS GET CONTROL OF THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE." "I'VE COMPLETELY HAD IT WITH THE BASTARDS."

This is a very good friend of mine whom I served with in the Navy. We've had our political chit chats over the years but always remained shipmates. He was a big Reagan and Bush supporter. Much more religious then me. A limbaugh fan at one time; but he had some very sailor-like language for the immoral cowards trashing of Michael J. Fox.

The email made my day.

1. He's Not The Only One....
U.S. generals call for Democratic takeover
Disgusted with the leadership of the Iraq war, two retired generals say the GOP must go. Plus: More than 100 current military personnel join a campaign to get the U.S. out of Iraq -- now.

By Mark Benjamin

Oct. 25, 2006 | Two retired senior Army generals, who served in Iraq and previously voted Republican, are now openly endorsing a Democratic takeover of Congress. The generals, and an active-duty senior military official, told Salon in separate interviews that they believe a Democratic victory will help reverse course from what they consider to be a disastrous Bush administration policy in Iraq. The two retired generals, Maj. Gen. John Batiste and Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, first openly criticized the handling of the war last spring, when they called for the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

"The best thing that can happen right now is for one or both of our houses to go Democratic so we can have some oversight," Batiste, who led the Army's 1st Infantry Division in Iraq in 2004 and 2005, told Salon. Batiste describes himself as a "lifelong Republican." But now, he said, "It is time for a change."

8. tony snow might not call this "just numbers"
Hi Dinah. I see you are a parrot head. Have you been down to New Orleans? Couple of great Parrot Head bars in the quarter. Margaritaville, of course, and Tropical Isle on Bourbon. My two favorite bars. I told my wife when I died I wanted to be cremated and part of my remains put on display on the second floor of the T. I. There is a small urn behind glass hanging on the wall there with a plaque stating it was the remains of a parrot head fanatic. Great idea.

3. Did anybody ever point out how short Michael J. Fox is? I think he's
about 5'4", and now he's fighting Parkinson's ... so "ex-football player" and Republican fatboy "tough" Rush Limbaugh is garnering his forces to take him on, many-on-one ...

Of course, that makes the odds about equal in their eyes ... since a 66-year-old, little grandmother makes them piss their pants in fear ...

5. It was a long and rambling email
about a lot of things that would no doubt bore everyone to tears but I thought I'd share the "money" line if you will. We chat about sports, state politics, the good old days of the Navy, who died, who moved, who got divorced and on and on. We keep each other informed. I'd like to get more like that. If my brother in law sent me something like that I think I'd fall over dead.

6. I think I can match your guy with another from the Navy
who was so staunch in his support of Bush, we agreed not to mention his name. Now, he is disgusted with the whole bunch...what with all the corruption going on. He isn't a Demo, yet, but he is at least back in the Independent category. I know the Rs won't get a vote from him for a long, long time.
