WTF? My Democratic Voting Guide Suggests Voting No on Prop 87
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 01:49 PM by AtomicKitten
Both Gore and Clinton have campaigned and cut commercials advocating voting "yes" on Prop 87 here in California.

http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/politics/elections/15834701.htm
http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=109&STORY=/www/story/10-13-2006/0004451445&EDATE=

from the voting guide:

QUOTE: NO on Proposition 87
Higher gas prices, less $ for schools and public safety. $4 billion oil tax increase, spent by 50 political appointees - no results required. NOT the road to cleaner energy.

Also QUOTE:
NO on Proposition 87
Legislative Analyst says 87 reduces local property tax revenue and $ for schools, public safety. San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, California State Firefighters' Association say "NO on 87."

7. Hmm...
That seems to be the standard-issue argument against any CA ballot initiative. I suppose they're also trying to steer clear of the Gas Price Issue. And then, of course, there's the Ahnuld. Well, the CA Democratic Party never was as smart as it was powerful. (Or used to be, before that idiot Davis)

10. Looks like a political "free spending" bill that's colored with Green-speek.
Like it says, there doesn't seem to be any oversite to how the revenue is actually spent.

6. mine is "Voter Information Guide"
that pretends to be from the Democratic Party but in fine, fine print says it's not an official political party organization.

This creeps me out a bit since I've actually been receiving phone calls in the evening from folks trying to persuade me to vote Republican.

4. I've gotten some "Democratic" voting guides
that are so far off the chart from
what the real Dems stand for that it's ridiculous.

Check out who mailed it.

Vote for your best choice.

The true Dem position on 87 is 'YES.'

5. Is it really a "Democratic" voting guide? Lesson from Anna Escho
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 02:13 PM by candice
Tom Campbell "won" against Anna Escho in her first race for Congress because of a "Democratic" voting guide that recommended all Dems EXCEPT her. People thought that the Democratic Party did not support Anna Escho! Tom Campbell (Repug) won as a result, and he went on to vote for Clinton's impeachment because Clinton was supposedly practicing harassment in the work place (as if Monica hadn't bragged about bring her President kneepads to Washington where Clinton was her object of desire). Fortunately, we are rid of Campbell as an elected official, but Governor Steroids has appointed him to something. (He's at Haas Business School, Berkeley now.)

Go to www.peterates.com for an analysis of the California propositions.

Check the League of Women Voters Web page as well.

11. The radio ad the oil companies have been running ad nauseum...
state at the end of it a long list of orgs opposing 87 --all of them sound like sham rethug orgs which are intentionally given titles meant to deceive and confuse. I respect Al Gore's position on energy and environmental issues. If he says 87 is a good thing, I'm inclined to trust his endorsement.

12. It's not from the Dem party at all - - and that's not their position
What you got there is not from the CA Dem party. Check out their website's voter guide. Their proposition page says quite clearly the CA Dems want us to vote Yes on 87:

ANYTHING to get us weaned off imported oil is a plus for me. Support for development of alternatives is VERY important.

They will have many legit as well as invented organization lined up
to sing their tune.

I Jesus himself headed an anti-BIGOIL proposition you can bet he would be
portrayed as the Devil himself, with half the political leadership swearing to it.

16. the 'Democratic voter's guides'
(funded by some swarmy PAC in the microscopic print) - I found out the other day, the swarmy
PACS contact campaigns & candidates and say for $4000 (or whatever) we will include your name on our list of endorsements. This amount is always smaller than the cost, to the candidate, of printing & mailing their singular flyers.....so they sign on. I got one that endorsed Lockyer but recommended a yes vote on 85 & 90!

That one went in the trash real fast.

17. Lockyer is being endorsed by the SF Chronicle - unbelievable
I knew when I saw his name and 'no' on 87 something was up. Otherwise it pretends to be a Dem voting guide with a big 'ol picture of Diane Feinstein and touting Planned Parenthood.

I filed it in the circular file.
