10-24, Kerry and Menendez event in NJ West Orange: PIX

WE pulled it off, whew. Originally this event was to be held at the West Orange VFW, but being an Anti war event it was moved to more nuetral ground, Seton Hall University. Then SHU decided to limit the event to 120 SHU students, then it was 450, then they cancelled. All within about 18 hours. Sooooo the event was held outdoors at a West Orange Firehouse.

1. How was the turnout after all that?
It was shitty of Seton Hall to pull the rug out from under people like that - was the turnout still okay despite the bait-and-switch?

Great pix.

3. There was also very little information on it anywhere

I knew from Kerry's web site that he was going to be in NJ but not where. There was nothing on Menendez's web site - about any appearances. I'm amazed that they were even able to pull it off.

Nice pictures - the coverage in the Daily Record and Star Ledger seemed pretty good for Menendez. (Kean's position seems as lame as all his positions.)
The Daily Record got a nice Kerry quote:

"I knew his dad, and I liked his dad, and his dad has served this country well," Kerry said. "But the last time people voted for somebody because they liked his dad, we got W."

4. I am still SHOCKED that a college would last-minute CANCEL on an event
like that. How amazingly rude to two senators and the student body. I don't think many here at DU are even aware of what happened with Seton Hall yesterday - I didn't see any threads on it.

5. I talked to 2 oficials at SHU, one was telling me about the fire they had a few
years back and citing the fire code. In all fairness to SHU, they still seem to be suffering in the aftermath of the fire. On the other hand its been a few years and they should have the ability to deal with the appearance of 2 Senators. If the Admins have not recovered from the fire, I would offer they need new Admins.

7. That was an awful fire, but that seems a lame excuse
Wisteria on another thread found a link that Alito taught at their law school - that really seems a more plausible reason.

Or maybe they saw too many DU posts that "Kerry was on fire" in recent speeches. :)

8. Yes the Law school has right leanings, but the School of International
Affairs & the School of Diplomacy are left leaning. & Kerry has ties to the Walsh Library. And one Professor at the School of Diplomacy went to College with Kerry.

10. It does seem lame
If they were that worried about a fire just be prepared to have the firemen come asap. I wonder if they would have had that same excuse for Ann Coulter or Sean Hannity or any number of them. It just makes me suspicious.

9. He's getting alittle saggy in the jowls
The Senator must be losing weight again like he did during the 2004 campaign. That tends to show in his face.

Anyone who thinks this man is not working his butt off for the mid-term elections can kiss my grits.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the Senator should eat a sandwich, and make sure he's taking care of himself.
