Dear VoteVets.org Supporter,
Today, we are unveiling a television ad campaign to run in four districts, calling for the defeat of Congressmen who are holding on for their political lives - Representatives John Sweeney, Gil Gutknecht, Jon Porter, and John Doolittle.
You can view the ads on our website at
http://www.votevets.org/.We are saturating the markets where the ads are running, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars, overall, to ensure everyone sees it. But we need your help to get this ad up in other districts. We've got other versions, ready to go, but they will only see the light of day if you help us out. Please help us keep these ads running by making a contribution here.
The ad features Tomas Young, a veteran of the war in Iraq. Tomas signed up for military service just a few days after the 9/11 attacks, having seen the President stand at the rubble of the world trade center, promising vengeance against those who did us harm. In March 2003, he was deployed to Iraq, and was shot while riding in an unarmored truck.
This left him paralyzed from the chest-down.
According to icasualties.org, there have been over 44,000 non-mortal casualties to US troops in Iraq, and over 5,700 in Afghanistan, since the beginning of both of those wars. Thousands more will be wounded in theatre, and many of those will come home to seek aid from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The VA, as you may know, is experiencing the greatest demand for its unique services in a generation. Unfortunately, it remains chronically underfunded, which has led to facilities being shut down, and long lines for service.
That is why it is so shocking, as the ad points out, that Congressmen Sweeney, Gutknecht, Porter, and Doolittle all voted against giving greater funding to veterans care.
Doolitte, Sweeney, and Porter all voted for a resolution ordering the House Veterans' Affairs (VA) Committee to cut benefits or to tax veterans by increasing their fees. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the budget resolution required Congress to make $155 million in cuts to veterans' benefits in fiscal year 2006, and $798 million over the next five years, by fiscal year 2011.
. Gutknecht voted down amendments that would have added millions and millions to the Department of Veterans' Affairs budget .
All these Congressmen might say we just didn't have the money to take care of our veterans. Yet, at the same time, Reps. Sweeney, Gutknecht, and Doolittle voted to allow themselves a pay increase this past year.
Help us let others know how their Congress members failed the troops and veterans. Donate here.
These Congressmen are walking, talking examples of the horribly distorted priorities in Washington, and they need to be voted out. That is why we are launching this ad against them today. They are all vulnerable, in tight races, and we are determined to let their constituents know what a disgrace they are to their districts and their nation.
Will you join us? Keep these ads running, by donating here.
Thank you for all you have done to support the Voice of the 21st Century American Patriot!
