Mike Fitzpatrick came to my school today |

Unfortunately, the only actual question I got to ask him was in regard to a referendum he mentioned, in which the voters in his district decided to raise taxes slightly in order to preserve land. This was while he had some other office, which I can't remember right now. I asked that if he and the voters could support a tax raise for a good purpose, then why does the Republican Party act as though tax raises are the worst thing we could possibly do? He went on to say that it depends on what you raise them for, although he did not say much about why Dems might consider raising taxes. He rambled a fair amount with most of his answers but if you'd like to know what other issues were discussed, just ask. I noticed he said "democrat party" several times, so after some consideration I shook his hand at the end but mentioned that the correct term is "democratic party." I'm not sure if he really cared.

1. Well, he walked right into the trap, if you'd been allowed a followup |
|
"it depends on what you raise them for... ramble, ramble"
follow up: So, what you are saying is that if the the object of the government expense is worthy, then we should raise taxes to pay for it... so what were the $250 Billion dollars in federal spending, which represents the current deficit by the administrations calculations, that you voted against? Or did we simply miss where you advocated raising taxes to pay for them?
