Matt Lauer: Rush just said what a lot of people were privately thinking
Lauer on Limbaugh's Michael J. Fox attacks: "Didn't Rush Limbaugh just say what a lot of people were privately thinking?"

http://mediamatters.org/items/200610260012

From the October 26 edition of NBC's Today:

INGRAHAM: Well, I think that -- here's what's going on, is I think most people now understanding that one thing is for sure, is that if we leave Iraq, we lose Iraq. Because you're unhappy with the current situation, as the president said he is -- he's not satisfied -- doesn't mean you redeploy, as John Murtha says or John Kerry or most of the Democrats. It means that perhaps we need more troops in one part of Iraq, perhaps we need to change our strategy. And that's exactly what President Bush said he's going to do, and I think that's one of the reasons he went to the American people.

<...>

LAUER: And you brought up Michael J. Fox. Let me just ask you: You know, Rush Limbaugh started a lot of controversy when he said perhaps Michael J. Fox was exaggerating or faking these effects of Parkinson's disease in that ad promoting stem cell research. Didn't Rush Limbaugh just say what a lot of people were privately thinking?

INGRAHAM: Well, Michael J. Fox himself, I think, had written that when he testified before Congress, he decided to go off his medication. But this is not about Limbaugh, it's not about Fox. It's about an amendment that claims to ban cloning, Matt, and instead it constitutionalizes the right to clone for the destruction of those embryos that are in the lab.

LAUER: And Sue --

INGRAHAM: That's the fact. It's not about Limbaugh, and the media loves to make it about Limbaugh and Fox. That's not what it's about.

LAUER: But also, Susan, last word. If Michael Fox goes out there politically and puts himself in the fray, he has to expect to be, you know, taken to account, correct?

ESTRICH: Correct. And he is being taken to account.

How can they defend that fat junkie blowhard for attacking a disabled person and mocking his disability. They are the scum of the earth.

9. What were Ms. Ingraham and Matt Bad-Buzz Cut saying about MJF
when he made ads SUPPORTING Arlen Specter about the SAME SUBJECT?

I'm privately thinking that Matt Lauer is a lousy journalist, trying way too hard to be hot, and toilet-licking scum.

I'm fortunate in my health condition that my party supports this issue nearly unequivocally. I don't NEED to be a single-issue voter.

11. So...
He's being a journalist and playing devil's advocate. Does anyone have proof those are Lauer's personal views?

I want a balanced media. That means sometimes hearing questions that I think are unnecessary and bothersome.

Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 10:02 PM by sandyd921
What we have now is a 24 hours a day totally unbalanced media, all on the side of way out there regressive right-wing views of social and political issues.

18. I'm sorry but I disagree...
I mean no disrespect but asking questions and playing devil's advocate does NOT include implying that all of America is thinking Michael J. Fox could EVER fake such a thing.

When I studied journalism, I was taught that journalists are supposed to be the "public's watchdog." They are supposed to pose questions of those that govern us, the entities that most influence our day to day lives--not attack the disabled. I'm sorry but that is all Lauer did with his "question" was attack an obviously disabled man--and made himself and his network look like complete heartless assholes in the process.

Where the fuck were they when these idiots were stealing elections? Where were their questions and playing devil's advocate then?

Some things should be sacred. There should be some things that a journalist of any sort of integrity just won't do. This in my opinion was one. He's forever lost my respect for doing so. Playing devil's advocate about a disabled man's plea to support stem cell research just shows us all who's pocket they are in, and who's interest they are protecting. It's not the public's.

Matt Lauer is a piece of shit, with no journalistic integrity.
