Poll: Middle class voters abandoning GOP

Poll: Middle class voters abandoning GOP

By LIZ SIDOTI and TREVOR TOMPSON, Associated Press Writers 40 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The 2006 election is shaping up to be a repeat of 1994. This time, Democrats are favored to sweep Republicans from power in the House after a dozen years of GOP rule.

Less than two weeks before the Nov. 7 election, the latest Associated Press-AOL News poll found that likely voters overwhelmingly prefer Democrats over Republicans. They are angry at President Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress, and say Iraq and the economy are their top issues.

At the same time, fickle middle-class voters are embracing the Democratic Party and fleeing the GOP — just as they abandoned Democrats a dozen years ago and ushered in an era of Republican control.

"I don't think the Republican Party represents what I stand for. The guys I golf with, we're in the middle class, we're getting hurt," says Joseph Altland, 73, a retired teacher in York, Pa. He is a registered Republican but says he is considering becoming an independent.

2. Do the math...who is left to deliver "victory" to the GOP?
This should be one of the most obvious things out there. We now know that real conservatives are bailing on the GOP, the soccer moms are long gone, they've lost regular republicans via scandal overload, and now the middle class is abandoning him, too. So, on November 7, if they eek out another miracle victory and "win" everything with another 51% "mandate," how the hell are they going to explain where the votes came from? Does anyone with an ounce of intelligence believe the last couple years have driven MORE people into the GOP fold?

Exactly how stupid do they think we are? I guess we'll all find out on November 8th. If they pull that Diebold crap again, and we just take to the keyboards again instead of demanding reality, then I guess America will get what it truly deserves. I hope we're all prepared to NOT allow that to happen.

Don't bring a friend to the polls. Bring two friends. And have 'em bring along a couple of their friends. We need to BURY the GOP with reality!

3. Those guys stuck with the Republicans for 12 years as their
personal standard of living came under attack by a congress that will see more indictments than the mob, and they're "fickle?" Are they "flip-floppers?" Who writes this crap?

have your interests at heart.

I like to call it "trickle-up" economics. Make sure the most basic needs of the worst-off people are taken care of (health, food, shelter), add some education and opportunity, and then we can all make a boatload of green as we see fit.

Put your feet up, there's sodas, snacks, tea and coffee. Watch a bit of Keith Olbermann--he's funny and astute (he requires a bit more thought than O'Reilly (he wants you to think for yourselves--really, it isn't as bad as it sounds), but like coffee, you'll grow to love him.

You'll love it, I promise--and things promise to do nothing but get better for all of us. Well, maybe not Dick Cheney.
