For Clark Supporters: "What Wes Knows".....(and so do you!)
Wes ended his JJ speech in Virgina tonight talking about how the US is in danger of not being able to offer hope to future generations. It's obvious he believes that this country is a a turning point...and that if things don't change, we could go down the tubes.

But it's clear he isn't just talking about the economy or healthcare. He is talking about the powers that have a stranglehold on our country. And it's clear he sees people like Kerry and Edwards as part of that power structure.

And this why Wes' message resonates with his strong supporters. We know he speaks the truth. Most Americans don't see this clear danger...they are too wrapped up in their concerns and don't see the bigger picture.

Wes supporters understand his warning---we understood the big picture before he came on the scene...and now, we are devoted to him because he knows what we know and he is talking about it....He makes us feel that we are not alone!

And that is why the media is trashing him and the DNC is trying to brush him off. Because he knows the danger we are in ...and no one wants to face the problem. Wes is the only candidate who is willing to even bring up the subject...He is the candidate who wants to give America back to the people. He is the one giving Americans one last chance to reclaim their country.

Frankly, understanding this and the courage that Wes has displayed....it would be prostituting myself and my belief in him to ever cast a vote for anyone else at this point.

1. I agree.
This is a good assessment, Gloria. One thing that comes through clearly whenever I hear Clark speak is that he actually "gets it." He "gets" the fact that something drastic has to happen in terms of the leadership structure of this nation, or the regular folk like you and me will all suffer.

This isn't just a "Democrat" vs. "Republican" thing. It's about those in power vs. the powerless. It's about the extremely well-off having a different set of laws and regulations to abide by than the rest of us. Make no mistake, changing the President is only the first step we need to take to make this country great again. We need regime change in the House and the Senate. We need a more balanced Supreme Court. We need to hold corporations accountable for their unlawful actions. We need a fair trade policy. We need the Fairness Doctrine reinstated and we need a complete overhaul at the FCC and EPA. We need to become part of the international community again. We need an effective national security plan.

There are so many things wrong with this country right now. I don't even pretend to think Clark alone will fix these problems, but I do believe very strongly that he, and HE ALONE, will be the most effective catalyst this nation needs to become the land of beauty and opportunity for all.

3. Yes...he couldn't fix all the problems but he would work hard to
wrest total control of our country from corporate interests and the power concentrated among the few in the inner circle. His tax policy addresses the flow of jobs out of the coutnry by halting the tax laws that let companies do this and reward them with tax breaks; and his tax plan really does help shift the wealth back to average Americans. He's onto the media and would speak to this issue far more vocally than the pink tu-tu Democrats we have now.

Face it, Democrats seem to be voting for the equivalent of Tom Daschle...pink tu-tu Democrats. Voting for people, (K and E) who are now running AGAINST what they voted for!

35. Very good!
The Supreme Court is a really big issue, glad you mentioned that. Also the medical malpractice issue, Bush's push for tort reform, that's another scary one. We the people have fewer and fewer safeguards against the corps. Clark stated that the malpractice insurance for doctors needs to be investigated. Amen.

2. Hear, hear!
It is so sad that his message isn't spread as wide as it should be. I honestly believe that if the General's platform could reach the apathetic masses they would see he is clearly the best man for the job. All the bad guys who are in power know if he was on top the fun would end for them and they won't let it happen.

4. You know, I almost can't bear to think of what it might be like without
seeing Wes Clark out there. There will be a gaping hole.

Sort of like when John Lennon died. It just felt so strange to know he wasn't going to be in the world anymore. Wes, of course, will be alive...but the world will have lost a great opportunity. And I mean,
the world--because Wes is admired and there are polls showing that Europeans would welcome him as President....

5. I'm so discouraged and depressed
and disillusioned with our country right now that I almost think that the American people deserve another four years of Bush, and whatever long term consequences come with that.

I will of course support and vote for the person who gets the Democratic nomination, but forgive me for not having alot of confidence in the likelihood of his winning the election.

If Shrub gets elected, the American people will have truly chosen him, and I can't say that I'll feel that bad at watching them reap the consequences of that choice.

I'm sorry, I'm in a really black mood today.

6. Good Analysis
I hoped desperately that Wes Clark would enter the race, because I felt we needed an outsider who was truly independent of the system, to make necessary changes.

With his experience in bucking the system, his honesty, dedication to country, he was the perfect choice.

However, he has always been a long shot. The powers that be are too powerful, & his candidacy threatens them. Gov. Warner of Va. will endorse Kerry tomorrow, & with each day that passes, it becomes harder to figure a scenario where he can succeed.

8. Regarding Warner....the camera caught him as he listened to
Clark's speech...He was absolutely stone-faced and looked tense.

And when Wes was giving his closing remarks with his warning about the future, there was dead silence hanging in the air.

I just get the feeling that a lot of people in that room, including Warner, had, for just a split second, a niggling sense of doubt about this whole election season and what the Democrats are doing to themselves. Like they heard, but tried to ignore what they were hearing........

10. Bad room
I didn't feel the audience there would be too responsive to Wes' message; just like they wouldn't want to hear from Dennis or Howard. The JJ dinner is a bash for the elite that are threatened by Clark and the other outsiders (i.e. NOT Kerry or Edwards), and they're gleeful to hear Bush-bashing -- but DO NOT talk to them about challenging the power structure.

even people who aren't in the power structure fancy themselves as part of the power structure. Lots of posturing here.

Add in the fact that half the people in the state are still fighting the Civil War and know nothing about the Revolutionary War. . .well, it's a strange place.

I will say Clark supporters gave him a rousing welcome out on 5th Street last night as he gave a short speech before the dinner. I was cheered and impressed by him as well. I hope he could carry that good feeling through the frost and snow at the actual dinner! DH and I like Clark, but we also like Edwards, Kucinich, and Sharpton. So we will be standing in the voting booth on Tuesday and the people waiting will be saying, "Criminy, vote already!"

14. Perhaps his conscience was bothering him.
Clark frightens a lot of Democrats (not to mention Republicans). He knows Washington, he's worked with people in Washington, but he isn't OF Washington. Therefore, he knows the deal. He knows the loopholes, how the elite get over on the backs of the average American taxpayer.

We're in a sad state of affairs. I don't begrudge Kerry his success. But I feel like he and Edwards are more of the same. When have they put their life on the line for us? Where was their strength and courage when we needed it most?

It wasn't there. They chickened out. They were afraid of rocking the boat. Clark doesn't strike me as the type to be afraid of anything.

Yes, Kerry and Edwards are talking a good game right now. But will they truly change anything? I seriously doubt it. They are elitist and they have a vested interest in keeping things the way they are. When Clark promises change, I believe him. He's done it before, albeit on a smaller scale.

9. I STILL BELIEVE !
OK, the whole thing doesn't fit but some of it does........

the Lost Boys Soundtrack Lyrics
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Artist: Tim Capello Lyrics
Song: I Still Believe Lyrics

I been in a cave
For forty days
Only a spark
To light my way

I wanna give out
I wanna give in
This is our crime
This is our sin

But I still believe
I still believe
Through the pain
And through the grief

Through the lies
Through the storms
Through the cries
And through the wars

Oh, I still believe

Flat on my back
Out at sea
Hopin' these waves
Don't cover me

I'm turned and tossed
Upon the waves
When the darkness comes
I feel the grave

But I still believe
I still believe
Through the cold
And through the heat

Through the rain
And through the tears
Through the crowds
And through the cheers

Oh, I still believe

I'll march this road
I'll climb this hill
Upon my knees
If I have to

I'll take my place
Upon this stage
I'll wait till the end of time
For you like everybody else

I'm out on my own
Walkin' the streets
Look at the faces
That I meet

I feel like I
Like I wanna go home
What do I feel?
What do I know?

But I still believe
Yes, I still believe
Through the shame
And through the grief

Through the heartache
Through the tears
Through the waiting
Through the years

For people like us
In places like this
We need all the hope
That we can get

Oh, I still believe

Both Kerry and Edwards failed to stand up to Bush on the most important issue in this election. They will always look out for themselves. John Kerry shamelessly wrote a $6 million check and may have bought himself a nomination. But I'm done with those guys. I'm grateful to Wes Clark for having the courage to set a higher standard. He's my candidate until the very end.

15. Sees too far ahead
I've been thinking along those lines recently. It's like when you read a good history book and in the first few chapters, the key structural changes are at work and...nothing happens. People keep acting the way they always have, because the don't see the change until some crisis comes and makes it impossible to avoid. We're on about chapter 3 now, and Clark's the only one in the field who can be sure that the book never gets written.

Bush's war has damaged America far, far more than 9/11 ever could have, and poor, dumb John Edwards still thinks it was a pretty good idea. I have no idea what John Kerry really thinks, but when he speaks out of the left side of his mouth, I almost believe he may come to understand the magnitude of the error before it's too late. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking. The other three may not fully grasp the problem, but at least had the common sense to see it was a stupid thing to do.

Maybe Clark will pull it out. Maybe the nominee will turn from weatherman to leader. Maybe Bush has been chastened to sense by his failures. Maybe we'll get lucky. But I'm afraid Americans are just going to be unwilling to admit that they've taken the wrong path until that crisis comes and startles them awake.

16. The second part of Clark's speech is really good
here: http://www.videosforclark.com/vidclips/VA_dinner_020704_seg2.WMV

Yes, he closed his speech with four reasons why he's the best man to be elected President #44 in 04 - and the fourth was, in essence, his vow to protect hope, by changing "Washington"

Is it really realistic to expect this indirect call on the Fourth Estate to come clean as well?

I don't know, but I'm all fo(u)r it.

No idea what the numerology wizards would make of it: I only know that Clark was on the mark, and that this year is the last opportunity for a qualified, decent and highly capable leader such as Wes Clark to make the difference.

Some say Americans have been sleeping through this administration; I say we all should wake up, calling on Wes to keep the American Dream alive for our children. Wes' Fourth Item is the heart of what's as stake in these elections, and he'll deliver thanks to his other three qualities.

I am through with politicians - I hope Wes will make it to the WH, to put them back at work, and with them, the rest of the country; from idiots like Coulter, Limbaugh and O'Reilly who feed off idle ignorance, to the idle ignorants who sleep dreamlessly though existance instead of dealing with this short thing of a life like all effing grownups have to in this world.

Enough is enough: I'm too p*ssed off to let the apparent popularity of glandhanding jokers get in the way of my determination to serve getting Wes Clark in the White House, and if -- goodness forbid -- the pretty suits prevail in this deranged circus, I won't owe anyone one g*ddamn bit, certainly not an "explanation" for my convictions.

Today it's become clear for me: it's Clark, Dean, Kucinich; either and in that order, or none at all; the price of a call to allegiance too many.

18. It could have been a revolution
In the way things get done in washington, in the way washington works. I think Wes Clark has the potential to be one of the most constructive presidents of the 21st century. But the democrats don't want change, so they're gonna vote for a guy who will continue business as usual.

I had never donated to a candidate before Clark and if Kerry becomes the nominee he won't get a dime from me. I think Kerry is dishonest and doesn't give a rat's ass about regular folk. Clark cares about people, this man is really running because he believes (foolishly i guess) that he could make the country and peoples lives better if given a chance.

It looks like it might be over for Clark but I don't care about his poll numbers. Front runner, underdog, it doesn't matter, I'm his man until the end.

24. Missed this thread
But I had posted to another thread just before turning in last night and it seems to belong here.

I broke away from my computer, went and read awhile about Wes Clark and Kosovo, on and off pondered the J&J speech tonight, came back on just to say "G'night, Clarkies," and we have the best American president-in-waiting since JFK. There is no way we can let this man down, because in his decency, in his strength, in his will, he does not permit us to falter. He carries us and we carry him. I have never felt as sure of anything in my life.

Having slept on it, no change.

29. Thanks for pointing that out
You're absolutely right. That is definitely what he was saying.

His statements last night are consistent with statements he made before he entered the race. He looks forward 100 years and sees the future if changes are not made. The power structure controls those changes.

I became very depressed last week when the Democratic Party's complicity with the media became transparent. As disillusioned as I was in December of 2000, I'm even more disillusioned this year. I feel betrayed by my own. I'm obviously much more naive than I realized.

30. Clark is a danger to both camps
Clark is serious about getting rid of special interest, those that contribute to both camps. Clark and Dean would turn DC upside down and empty the pockets of both parties. Imagine that emptying the pockets of politicians and giving it back to the American people in the way of Jobs, Healthcare, and Education, not to mention what it could do for the security of this nation to have some one in office that knows foreign policy and has diplomacy skills. I have to agree with you, our own party caved to special interest, they could have remained nuetral and Clark would be well on his way by now, but they picked the "status quo" politician, Kerry. I will vote for Kerry but have a new sense of dismay about all things political, after being so involved with a new and different kind of candidate it is so hard to go back to just being ABB. Now I see why there is a huge interest in 3rd party candidates. If Clark is not the nominee I say get him running as a 3rd party candidate for 2008 no matter who the eventual Pres. is. I'm still calling and fighting for Clark, have not given up, just donated $100.00 in my husbands name and will be calling Tn and Va all day, never can tell what a difference a day can make.

31. Wes' "Eisenhower" moment? Woke up this morning post-speech...
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 12:01 PM by Gloria
with a nervous knot in my stomach.....and reflected on the fact that Wes'closing comments about the perilous state of our country quite possibly can be regarded as his "Eisenhower" moment. Prescient, just as Eisenhower's warnings about the military-industrial complex were prescient.

Now, I am on the horns of a dilemma. Would I want to see Wes Clark as Secretary of State under any other Democrat in the field? On the one hand, I could see him swallowing hard and doing it for the good of the country. He would certainly know how to deal with our allies and help restore our reputation in the world.

On the other hand....would he even consider it, since he knows the politics of Washington well enough and fought the Pentagon and was the subject of jealousy. Why would he want to serve under the likes of most of the Democrats out there? He must look at Colin Powell and say, "I don't want to end up like that--a shill."

I actually read in an article the other day that while Wes may not be the one now, he may be very ready in 2008. Food for thought, hope?

The one thing I want for Wes Clark is this: that he goes out with the dignity and respect he has earned from his supporters. Lord knows, he certainly hasn't gotten any respect from the media or the Party.

And I'm glad I see he says he's staying in. He will use his platform to keep pushing at the truth for as long as he can.

And, perhaps, just perhaps, the media will begin to examine Kerry and Edwards more and more and perhaps that will give us just enough of a window for Wes Clark's truth to come out into the daylight...

36. To tell you the truth, as much as I want Wes Clark to be president,
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 10:46 PM by LandOLincoln
I think Secretary of State might actually be better for him--at least for now--and perhaps almost as good for the country.

If we do manage to elect a Dem president this year, whoever it is is going to have a very rough row to hoe. So let John Kerry or John Edwards or even Howard Dean beat his brains out trying to deal with a Republican congress. Let them endure the interminable investigations and boundless bile the wingnuts will unleash on them, just as they did with Clinton.

And Wes, with his four languages and his enormous prestige in Europe, let him go back and re-establish the relationships he built as SACEUR. Let him restore this country's honor and prestige with our allies abroad. Those 55 ambassadors and diplomats who endorsed him know he'll make their jobs easier and themselves much safer whether he's president or SecState, and he'll do the same for those of us here at home.

The man makes me feel safe. He seems to have the effect on a lot of people. We need him to remain in public life in some capacity.

34. Too bad Clark and Dean have no chance
The only two candidates that speak out on the issues that had people upset in 2002 election. The real issues were ignored by the mainstream democrats. We lost seats in the Congress. And there was Bush rantin' for war and our need to follow his lead for our safety. It was awful and scary. And the votes came in for his babble. Now Clark and Dean keep repeating what the really big issues are and they are considered "also ran" candidates. Dean's remarks about Saddams capture, Osama and a trial, his records as Govenor, etc. were all slanted in the media before the Iowa caucauses. Dean got press but not good press. Alway insinuating he has a problem, not sure what it is but we must warn you the public. Always asking if he is electable. It wasn't just the speech after the Iowa caucus. That cinched it. Clark has many of the qualities of Dean plus internation know how, has talked to the big boys around the world and admired. Not bad huh?

37. If Clark beats Edwards in the South he has a real chance again
That would upset the media's apple cart about this race. After pushing down expectations for Clark so low for so long, while pumping up Edwards, it would be a shocker for many. It would kill the Edwards has momentum story, the media already gloats on Dean losing races, it would leave only Clark as the obvious "alternative to Kerry" by the rules of their own game. eBlock people, eBlock...

38. I agree.
"And that is why the media is trashing him and the DNC is trying to brush him off. Because he knows the danger we are in ...and no one wants to face the problem. Wes is the only candidate who is willing to even bring up the subject...He is the candidate who wants to give America back to the people. He is the one giving Americans one last chance to reclaim their country."

I agree and I also feel so disillusioned about the kind of country my children are going to grow up in. Contributing to my community and to my democratic party in my state just isn't enough anymore. Now I feel that General Clark has brought such awareness to the way our Country works that I can never go back to being just a Democrat. We must work for real change in the system. I think this scares people.

He has set such a high standard in this country for our leaders. The fear that General Clark has brought to this race reminds me of students resenting the one in the class who got an A+ because now the students are aware it can be done and are expected to strive for it. The truth is the other students in this race are not even expected to get an A.

IWR vote does really matter. The primaries and Janet may be consuming the media or vice versa, but people are still being killed in a war that did not have to happen. For that I will continue to fight for that A+ student in this race. People should stop resenting him and start honoring him.

This race is not over. I will fight this to the end.
