7. No shame in that
We've had our hopes dashed - ie. stolen - before. If November 7 doesn't go our way, we'll have plenty of time to feel down. This, though, is the time to feel up, energized and optimistic. Hang in there!

46. Don't know if it is a defeatist attitude that is overwhelming me or
pure fear. Fear seems more the issue. This is a damn serious election and we all know it. Election tampering is a major issue. Once a govt. has this kind of power we are allowed to have doubts.

8. Well, y'know, it ain't all gonna be a bed of roses...
...even if we manage to pull off both House and Senate. (And I think the Senate is still iffy.)

'Cause if things don't improve substantially by 2008, the GOPpies will be blaming the Dems left, right, and center.

And with the White House and an obdurate, obstructive, malicious minority impeding every attempt to clean up the mess, we'll be lucky if we manage to accomplish much, so they'll have plenty to whinge about.

ambivalently,
Bright

11. I think that works in our favor though.
I doubt we get the Senate and that may not be the end of the world.

Just getting the House and having narrowed the Senate to a razor thin margin will put some brakes on this administration.

The next two years will be ugly for this country (economy, war, deficit). If we had the Senate, the GOP can point to a democratic congress, but with a GOP Senate, they'll be left holding the bag and that means a HUGE win in 2008. President, Senate, House and probably a lot of governors too.

So I'm not worried about the Senate.

14. The victory is simply getting a chance to begin fixing things
Which is what we all know the GOP cannot and will not do. Can we? I believe we can. It begins with a majority in the House. If we get one in the Senate too, well that's better than even a lot of optimists think we'll do.

We're not achieving anything by winning the election. We're getting a chance to achieve things. America and the world need that chance.

That I have no doubt of. At the moment the repubs. make all the rules and all the Dems can do is make speeches. We need comitte heads, subpoena power and things will improve greatly. We will have a real Congress for a change instead of rubber stamps.

21. Yep, doomed to win
The Publican base is as disilusioned as it was after Watergate. They will have a hard time even buying an extra vote this time. Polls are saying the Dem candidates will get almost 60% of the voters with 40% for the pubs.

That works out to about 250 house seats for Dems! We are gonna clean their clocks and I wouldn't be surprised to see Dems take more than 59 seats from the Publicans! Anything less than that and you can bet a lot of votes were stolen.

Gawd, I can hardly wait for election night when we get to celebrate.

23. Seat totals are hard to predict with much certainty
And due to the way our elections work, they likely won't mirror the voting percenatges nationwide very closely. But I think the breadth of the Dem seat pickup will surprise a lot of the so-called pundits.

They are gonna be scratching their heads trying to figure out why they didn't call it correctly. It must have been the war in Iraq, they'll say. Or: the American people finally woke up and smelled the bs that's been coming out of DC, they voted for change!

59 seats or I ain't gonna be happy.

24. you know...
there have been so many times that i dared to voice that hope.

then i got my ass handed to me by a combination of the all seeing, all knowledgeble, and all STUPID/HATE FILLED/INGNORANT/BIGOTTED american voter, AND, of course, the ever present, and always fair, american media, with a little eletronic voting, as icing on the cake.

i will never again make the mistake of over optimistic hoping.... i, frankly, have very little respect for the average american voter.

if it happens, you can be damned sure that you will be able to knock me over with a feather.

but i ain't spreadin' out a lot of pillows to protect my fall, if you know want i mean....

34. agreed.
we need absolutely every person we can possibly get, at the polls. we have to vote like our very lives depend on it, because they do.

realistic optimism is one thing. blind, pie in the sky optimism is self defeating. (i am not accusing you of that....)

we need to feel desperate. "confidence" tends to breed complacency, and we DON'T need that.

but thanks for your realistic optimism. i am so sick of the doom and gloom, even though i can't help but feel it. it's a defensive, self-protection reaction.

may we celebrate, come wednesday week.

30. Thanks JeffR for your optimism
I agree but am afraid to even think too much about the results on Nov. 7th. I can't take another disappointment like we had in 04. We still have this last week to get through and you know about those dirty tricks that seem to come up at the end. If we don't do it this time, my fall will be disastrous. But just between you and me........I feel a landslide coming on.

and hopefully little by little we'll get a little closer to our "perfect candidate". I'll look for your post the night of the election and I have a feeling we'll be partying and beginning to make plans for 08. We can't get over confident this week and we'll really have to put it together for the big wave in 08. There is still work to be done and we haven't made a touchdown yet but it's first and goal to go!

because ALL the dems will be out there in full force for this one and a lot of the pubs will skip it because they are disgusted with the administration, Iraq, stem cell, etc.

We as a party have to stick together and get out the vote,we have to push our reasons for change,to recant all the boners this administration has pulled, and continue to pull.
Foley is the latest cover up of mis-deeds this administration has sweep under the rug.
Guess what,we're sending the rugs to the cleaners next tuesday!
think blue, think decent, think of who built this country! people like you and me with sweat on our brows, when the last time rove worked up a sweat from labor, chenny, rummy, rice and the head man 'Bush'.
so you know we can get that vote out-all they can do is talk!
