Santorum: Pension investments under Casey linked to terrorism

DAN NEPHIN
Associated Press

PITTSBURGH - U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum accused state Treasurer Bob Casey of "aiding and abetting terrorism and genocide," saying Sunday that state pension funds are invested with companies linked to terrorist-sponsoring states.

As he has done before, Santorum criticized Casey's work ethic, saying his Democratic opponent has failed to show up for work and has not been a diligent treasurer in failing to change investment policies.

The third-ranking Republican in the Senate said preventing terrorists from getting funding was an essential part of combating terrorism.

<<<<<snip>>>>>>

Bob Casey has invested Pennsylvania pension funds in companies with ties to terrorist-sponsoring states and states that engage in genocide," Santorum said. "Bob Casey is aiding and abetting terrorism and genocide."

Casey has called on investment managers to assess whether any companies in their holdings have business in terrorist-sponsoring countries, Smar said. The issue is one facing treasurers across the country.

"Instead of making each state do homework, perhaps the federal government could make it a lot easier" by releasing a list of companies involved with terrorist nations, Smar said.

Santorum said it is not the federal government's place to release a list.

1. Sounds like a slander suit to me!
Outright accusing a person of treason. Nice one.

11. Seriously, I've not seen or heard of any news report
of Rick Santorum beating his wife. Is this just a sarcastic post or is there some report of him abusing his wife???

12. It sounds like it should be a Sarcastic post
I am not aware of that fact either. Let's not be republicans and make stuff up in order to win.

I think it's Don Sherwood who beats-up women but that was his mistress, not his wife

14. it's a traditional figure of speech--
If you ask people "when did you stop beating your wife?" you are trying to place them in a no-win position. If they say, "last year" then they have admitted they did beat her previously. If they say, "never did that", you hope others will hear that as "they're still doing it" or at least will associate wife beating with them regardless of the facts. The poster is just drawing an analogy to Ricky's ridiculous "you're aiding the terrorists" smear.

Well, I can.

It sort of smells like ... man-on-dog sex.

Not that I have any experience of that kind of thing. I'm a Democrat, after all.

5. Oh, this is nice....
....Foley, Hastert, Allen, Corker, Harris, Santorum --"ad infinitum". The list just seems to go on and on. And Santorum is a piece of work.....

"Bob Casey has invested Pennsylvania pension funds in companies with ties to terrorist-sponsoring states and states that engage in genocide," Santorum said. "Bob Casey is aiding and abetting terrorism and genocide." Casey has called on investment managers to assess whether any companies in their holdings have business in terrorist-sponsoring countries, Smar said. Santorum said, "it is not the federal government's place to release a list."

Okay, so wait a minute. Let me see if I've got this straight. You say its not the federal government's place to release a list of companies doing business with terrorists? What? Is it your campaign's corporate donor list? Ahhh hey... knucklehead, THE WAR? You remember: Terra!!! Terra!!! Terra!!! Yeah, that one.

The war where we're all supposed to be helping each other to win? (at least that's what you usually do with a war). That guy of yours, ah... Bush. Yeah, he's the one who started the war on terror I believe. Although I hear we're apparently not "staying the course" on that now -- we're only planning to "sort of" win the war on terror, I guess.

This must be what you're talking about it not being the federal government's place, huh? I see what you mean now. Why would you want to help the people of your state, whom you represent?

7. Who cares about that - it's all about what the Dems do
:sarcasm:

Seriously, Republicans still deal with Saudi Arabia, which we all know supports state-sponsered terrorism

9. Casey should respond with a nod to that fact.
He doesn't need to try to prove it because the scent of that corruption was left 25 to 30 years agao and remains to this day with voters of a certain age (like me).

I'm watching this race almost as much as I'm watching my locals.

Wishing all of you out there the best outcome possible; I think the entire nation is behind you all!

8. As a person who holds a pension in a neighboring state
the federal government has wanted state, teachers and firefighters/cops pensions for a LONG time.

There is more than one bizzaro motive here...trust me

15. Santorum
is desperate. He wants to go back to Washington at all costs. Maybe Bush can throw him a bone after he looses & he will become the new Secretary of Terror (I mean defense).

then how do you find out if a company is doing business with a terrorist-sponsering country?

do you like, um...just ask them?

"Hello, you have reached Al-Qeada Nukes-R-Us... how may I help you?"

"Yes, I'm the treasurer for the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and I'm wondering if you do any terrorist sponsering?"

"Us?? oh no, sir... chuckle we do not heee-teeeheee, umm excuse me, no we do not sponser terrorism..."
