Saddam guilty verdict NOT a validation of Bush's War on Iraq - help get this out!! |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-30-06 08:04 AM by MethuenProgressive
Originally in the subject line: Saddam NOT GUILTY of WMDS or ties to al Qaeda
The vedict is timed to impact the Nov 7 election, and it WILL. Email Avalanche every news outlet, every big blog, every candidate you know now and up through the election! When the verdict is announced, and Bush claims it validates his war against Iraq. we need the message in place that Saddam was not tried for ANY of the reasons Bush went to war about. Please K&R this message, keep it on top, and add any links you have to email addys that you think we should be sending this message out to. We should email every show and commentator who might run with this, and LTTE every paper (do that NOW so it's in the Sunday paper) in our own areas. Get in front of this one, DUers!! Don't let the wingnut spinners own this! Clarification from my post further down this thread:
No, he not on trial for WMDs or ties to al Qaeda. What I'm predicting is that the Republicans will tout this as "see? We told you so America! Bush was right to wage war against Iraq!" This will be wrapped up in "If the Dems were in office, Saddam would still be arming terrorists with WMDs." And I don't want MSM to just parrot the expected Bush talking points on this.

1. No. A thousand times no. |
|
That's a losing proposition. It's too complicated for most Americans, and we'll come off as 'defending' Saddam. Even if the verdict does come down on the fifth of November, I don't see it as having a big impact on the election. We're better off just letting this go.

9. "It's too complicated for most Americans," that's a sad comment |
|
But it's why Bush remains in power, isn't it?

2. Besides the 35%, does anyone in America believe this trial was fair? |
|

Or does anyone believe the verdict is not a foregone conclusion?

3. Most people in America |

don't care if the trial was fair. It's just not a burning issue, and most Americans think of Sadddam as the boogeyman.

11. If it was "fair" Rummy would be named as a co-conspiritor |
|
Rummy and Reagan were not guilt-free in the atrocities Saddam committed.

5. Correct me if I'm wrong... |
|
...But I don't think Saddam is on trial for WMDs or ties to al Qaeda.
I also don't think there's been a verdict yet.
And, I also think you sound WAAAAAYYYY too excited about the possibility that a very evil man might get off. In fact, I'm thinking this thread makes us all look foolish.

I'm not the world's best wordsmith, I hope I was clearer this time?

You might want to edit your subject line. Just a thought.

I'd suggest, rather than trying to spin the message, simply give it its true weight.
Saddam's a thug who got what he had coming. Great. Now, what about the 2,346 dead and thousands upon thousand of wounded soldiers since that December day in 2003 when we caught Saddam? What about the gargantuan expense that this war is costing, which we are borrowing from Communist China? What about the Mission Accomplished banner, the magical mystical WMDs, the soaring gas prices, wage stagnation, no longer secret torture prisons, and what about New Orleans, which STILL sits in ruins and with the threat that it all might happen again soon? Oh, and, where's Osama, eh? Is he "dead or alive"?
It will make a nice letter to the editor on the night before the election.
